I have just been looking at the US MIO website as I wanted to buy the USA Maps for the C710.
Being the inquesitive person that I am I had a look at the specifications on the C710 on the US site and to my astonishment the US version has an extra feature, it has a video player.

This poses 2 questions that I would love the answers to and feel that I would get a better response here than from the MIO website.

1. As the units are the same, does anyone know if there is any software that C710 users can install on the UK version to enable the video player?

2. Its hard enough getting the TMC to work in the UK but does anyone know if the UK C710 model will work with the US TMC network?

The link for the US version is below.

1. Use TCPMP

2. No. At least a UK Mio will not work with the US TMC. The licence keys are different. I don't have a US TMC version, but the TMC system is generally becoming available here, and may actually work.

Thanks for your reply but a couple of extra questions please.

1. Where can I get the software for TCPMP as I have never heard of it.
2. Have you actual had it working or know that its compatible with the UK C710?

1. Just Google "TCPMP".
2. It runs directly on any Windows Mobile device. I haven't personally used it but since it's open source it won't cost anything to try. You may of course have to 'unlock' the Mio to get access to Windows.

I have personally used TCPMP on a UK Mio C710 and can confirm that it works.

Did you have to unlock the device first?

Sal or lbendlin
I'd love some details in installing the TCPMP software on to the MIO device.
I will be looking through the forums to find out how to unlock the MIO but just before I do, can anyone confirm to that I wil be able to restore the MIO back to its original state if falure occurs.

Hi Dave,
I'll leave it to Lutz to fill you in on the viewer since he has used it.
On the unlock, I don't think anyone will give you a 100% guarantee that you won't damage your Mio. However I can say that (1) I have been through the process several times without a problem and (2) I have never seen anyone complain that they have damaged it.
You need to make a distinction between the Windows sytem files and the Mio installation. You can completely b****r up the Mio files (as I have many times!) and always reinstall from the CD's. What you mustn't do is to interfere with the Windows files, and there is certainly no need to do so when unlocking. It's possible of course that the Windows installation is read-only and protected - I haven't tried it.
Good luck!
