I have a probelm with the map data on my current Tomtom go 300. When I try to navigate to certain addresses the postcodes and the addresses do not tally (I have quite a few). I have contacted Tomtom and Alta Map but I am not getting anywhere. I have also been to PC world (who supply Tomtoms and the map data on these is still incorrect). Does anyone know who else would supply map updates that would be more up to date and will work on my GPS. Also I would like to be able to download the latest data prior to taking a journey. Does anyone know a supplier who would permit this?

I've moved this to a more suitable section.

Firstly, who are AltaMap? TeleAtlas supply TomTom with their map data.

You can buy new(er) maps for your GO300 direct from TomTom.

Thanks for moving the posting to a more appropriate area. Buying a new map will not work. As I said in my original post I tried the map data on one of the new Tomtoms and these still contain the same postcode problems.

Then all you can do is report the problem areas to TeleAtlas HERE
or TomTom HERE (You need to be logged in on the TT site for that link to work).

Thanks for that, however, I did notify both two years ago.

Also, can you supply an example of a non-working postcode. I have three or four devices that I can try to find it on.

Thanks for that. The postcodes are as follows.
FY2 0ST the add is 339 Warley Road.
FY1 2PH, 8 Woburn Road
I do have others at home but these are the two I can remember.
The first belongs to a house that was built in the 1980s the second belongs to a house that was built approx in the 1930s. Both addresses are in Blackpool, but as the Tomtoms are sold on the premis you can navigate with just the postcode and the house number I find that this is not the case.

I don't think the problem is with TeleAtlas.

The Postcode co-ordinates are set by OS and all the TT, or any other Device, does is return those co-ordinates from a database to find a Point on Map. As we are talking about Road Navigation Devices the location is then linked to the nearest road.

If you use Browse Map you will see the Cursor falls between 2 roads, in both of the examples you give above. It just so happens that the data given may only be a few feet out and latch to the wrong road.

The Postcode data wasn't originally thought of as being used for Navigation purposes, so until the OS can be persuaded to be more accurate, this sort of situation will still arise.

Thanks for your reply but I have an issue with what you say. The reason I say that is because prior to buying a Tomtom, I hired one for a week. The Tomtom did contain the postcodes quoted above and these pointed to the correct roads. This is the reason I bought one, only to find that the data on the one I bought to be far out of date. The company I hired the Tomtom from mention that they get their data from one of two major mapping suppliers. The system they use is the one that is commonly accepted as being the best. Unfortunately I do not know to whom they are referring.

Hi. I find a lot of postcodes dont point to the correct address.
Acording to Tom Tom (300) my house number does not exist in my street!! My house has only been here for 80 years!!

The A10 dual carriageway past colliers end and wadesmill in hertfordshire
does not exist. It keeps trying to make me drive up the embankment and across the field to the old road!! The dualing was completed 3years ago.

But the new piece of A505 from Letchworth (A1) to the old A505 east of Baldock was on my Tom Tom before the started building it!!

I haven't changed the maps. Ver. 562

Clive.. (confused).
