But does TomTom one have TMC??? I don't mean the rubbish updates you'd get through your mobile's GPRS but TMC that can be used with a one off life-long subscription.

The RDS TMC unit is ONLY for use with the Go-x10 products, it won't connect to a TT One, for a TT One you need to bluetooth data from your phone to the device and use GPRS. The information the TMC unit recieves is the same data that you get from GPRS (its just delivered via a different method). All TT Traffic info is provided by iTIS Holdings irrespective of how it is transmitted to your device - Mike

matter of opinion on the tmc...reading the forum i get the impression that tmc is'nt very good and has patchy reception and the 'traffic' on the tom tom is more consitant and updated more frequently...

The RDS TMC is very good WHEN you have a signal, sadly in the UK transmitter strength is lacking in certain areas which leaves you with no traffic data at times, the data transmitted by the RDS TMC is the same but is regional I.e. you get a chunk of traffic info covering the area you are in, North UK, Central UK, and Southern UK, this band of traffic info changes as you move up or down the country so in use its not a problem. With the GPRS system you get the whole countrys traffic information, and can receive data in most areas of the UK - the drawback with GPRS is cost, the subscription is only the start, some mobile phone suppliers charge stupidly high amounts when using this service, (I have just moved phone provider for this very reason). Get an inclusive amount of data with your contract, and where possible monitor your GPRS data traffic (SPB GPRS Monitor is great for this on a pda type phone) - Mike
