That depends a lot on what exactly you HAVE downloaded!

We need some more clues...

For a start, are you sure you have Windows set up to actually show the extensions? In Explorer or My Computer go to the Tools Menu / Folder Options... / View tab and ensure "Hide extensions for known file types" is NOT ticked.

Now, is it the speed camera database from here that you've downloaded?
If so, it arrives as a .zip compressed archive. You need to right click it and select "extract all" (in Win XP) to de-compress it back to the original files.

Other than those two possibilities, tell us (or preferably give us a link to) what you've downloaded.

surely a zipped file is compressed to save download/server space then unzip it once you've got it.

Yeah. For some reason some peoples PCs don't save the file with a ZIP extension when it is downloaded - PC fault - probably an extension association fault. Anyway by telling it to save it with a camera.zip name it "fixes" the problem. Seen it here a few times.

As mentioned above the file IS a ZIP file but the PC doesn't think it is because the extension is lost. Tell it to save it with the extension and it works.

It's your personal preference... Have a look at the third question and answer in the FAQs HERE

If your device can cope with multiple POIs, most people go for the speed-zoned set of 24 files. (Takes a while to set up all the warnings, but you only have to do that bit once).

i'm not using a normal generic type of sat nav or gps/laptop or mobile phone , its a race circuit data logger laptimer with gps and it can use .ov2 files to give a warning of location but it does not have any route planning capability etc Embarassed its a very expensive piece of kit at over £1000 and i may aswell get the very most from it.
