Do I take it that this TT Home lark is a “big brother” exercise?

Does it allow Tom-Tom to see exactly what is on your unit? i.e. your home location, your favourites and POI preferences and more importantly which 3rd party plug-ins you are using?

Interesting theory. I wouldn't put it past them.
Have you got any direct evidence or links to where you read it?

No, I've run packet sniffers with TomTom home running and nothing untoward is sent to them. All I've observed is the software version and your login details. Nowt to be concerned about!

I'm REALLY not sure I want to know what a "packet sniffer" is!
Sounds well dodgy! Twisted Evil

It's a utility that allows you to intercept data sent from an application or PC. Data is sent in small 'packets' hence the name. You can capture the data and analyse it to see what is being transmitted. Smile

The only capturing of packet sniffers should be by the rozzers.
As well as microsoft running stealth software i seem to recall Sony doing the same but they got rumbled big time.

Hi Darren,

Would you mind doing me a packet sniffer favour for me, if you've a setup that can and you have the time please?

I'd be really interested in seeing what data gets sent and received for the buddy add on.

So, if you have a TomTom that has the buddy functionality in it and you can connect the TomTom to your PC, so it's your PC that's providing TomTom with internet access, then you should be able to sniff on your PC.

If any username or password information is seen from your sniffing, then please mask it out.

Please could you let me know if you would be able to do this or not.

Thanks,

Richard.
