i would like to draw peoples' attention to the fact that a large quantity of laptop batteries from a reputable Japanese company have had to be recalled so the fault could well be batteries which Mio should replace under warranty
i always get confused with charge cycles but:
do these batteries not recognise a full charge? my mobile phone displays a 'battery full' message and laptop LED changes colour to indicate bettery charging has ceased and the unit is simply being powered from the power supply
NiMH rechargeable batteries which I have turn the charger off when fully charged and this is with a charger that cost a few pounds, not tens or hundreds of pounds
so i'm going to show my ignorance and ask a dumb question - why do these devices not recognise a full charge, preventing the overcharge issue and extending the battery life 
if the batteries are not user changeable then i don't feel they should be classed as a consumable and ought to fall into the warranty |

To solve this problem is quite simple. A simple piece of electronic circuitry can do this but I suspect Mio haven't used it to keep the costs down.
Annoying I know, but so far (IMO), this unit has the most features per buck of any Sat Nav out there.
As mikealder said, someone's got their maths wrong with regards to charge discharge cycles. Most good quality rechargeables are only good for 1000 charge cycles regardless of discharged state.

i agree - even my 'base model' C210 is a fantastic little unit 
when i first received it i thought the only thing it missed was a built-in rechargeable battery but having read this thread i'm quite happy knowing i have to change the batteries from time to time
trouble is though where do you see Mio advertised? it's all TomTom, Navman etc
Mio are missing out on an excellent opportunity thru lack of marketing |

Hi all,
Just wanted to give my 5 cents on the charging issues..
Keeping track of when a battery is fully charged is not just a simple piece of electronics.. Because the point where the battery is fully charged is hard to detect. Also Capacity decrease over time and vary with temperature etc. However I think most every piece of electronics have a decent charge circuitry today. Simply because it results in too many RMA cases..
That being said I will recommend that you do not discharge your LiIon batteries completly as it will shorten their lifetime considerably! As mentioned on the Mio link.
