Is it Ok to leave this powered up all the time. I mean I have read different thigns about leaving him on all the time. Surely it is better left on all the time rather than on and off everythime i go out. I will be using it with Tom Tom and a Dell X5. Got all the kit going to install it at the weekend. Also if I install it in the corner of my front windscreen will it work OK, as I have a Mondeo with heated front, but they dont go right to the edge there is about a 3 or 4 inch gap.

Thanks

It's never a good idea to power anything constantly if you don't need to. Ideally connect it to an ignition controlled power source or if this is not possible then fit a switch in-line so that you can isolate it when you are away from the vehicle.

Whilst it should be fine in the corner of the windscreen the only sure fire way of confirming this is to test it in situ, just don't go wiring anything in permanently before you test it Thumbs Up

Yes but it comes with a cig lighter power supply and my cig lighter is on all the time so surely that is designed to be on all the time? Sorry if i am being stupid.

The cigarette lighter was designed to light cigarettes! Just because the GPS manufacturer has provided a convenient means of powering it from the cigarette lighter does not mean it should be powered 24/7. If as in your case the cigarette lighter is powered regardless of ignition being on/off then I would recommend unplugging the GPS if you anticipate being away from the vehicle for more than a few minutes for safety.

Don't forget that leaving it powered when you are away from the vehicle for extended periods runs the risk albeit small of flatteing your vehicle;s battery Sad
