Chugging noise
You're not being empathetic with me are you Embarassed

Today I managed to speak with Tom Tom again. Spoke to a very proficient lady, who in turn spoke with the second level guys.

She came back advising that there IS a KNOWN problem with the TTOne, and v6.15.

They are apparently working on a fix cure to the problem.

I asked the question is the tone likely to be detrimental to the unit The answer was No.

It's a little bit comforting for the suppliers to admit there is a problem instead of denials. Rolling Eyes

I would suggest you call or mail Tom Tom www.tomtom.com Support
so you too can give feedback.

I think it may be a case of not many people have perhaps heard the tone, til brought to their attention.

Thanks for your positive feedback on a negative subject Confused

[quote="mikealder"]I am not too aware of the settings available on this device, but when loaded with version 6,15 go to Change Preferences/ Brightness preferences (you might need to select Show ALL menu options) - now turn the screen brightness down and see if the noise changes in pitch/ intensity.

Sorry Mike, missed this post earlier. Yes there are brightness settings on the unit, and I will try your suggestion later.
I actually spoke again today with Tom Tom, and spoke with a very helpful female operator (can I mention female) Laughing

She spoke with their second level guys, and advised there IS (whoopee) a known fault with TTOne and 6.15.

They are working on a solution, she tells me.

And there was me, thinking I was going nuts Confused

Cheers

The above settings are available on my 910, but I am not 100% they are available to you on the TomTom one, if it is give it a try and report back and findings - Mike

Blimey, you were right :-)

The brightness settings were set to about 74%, I moved it all the way to 100% and hey presto, the annoying sounds totally stopped.

It's clearly a bug however so I hope TomTom sort it out.

Result! Thanks for the tip Mike, much appreciated.

In which case the noise is being emmited from the screen back light inverter, it could be a deffective unit, or an EMC style fault where the noise is being picked up by the audio amplifier, for now I would run the device at a high setting say 85% (you don't want to need sun glasses to see the TT unit) - if its still noisy up the display brightness until the noise stops - Mike

Hi Mike

Anything less than 100% and the high pitched whine returns.

And whilst the whine disappears at 100%, the 'chugging' noice that may be the SD card stays though it's not that loud and bearable.

I emailed TomTom yesterday so will wait to see what they say.

Cheers

Phil.

I have a tom tom Go 500 I am having a similar problem in that I get a constant high pitched whistle. I have tried dealing with the brightness and that makes no difference. Connecting to my computer makes no difference. It is just there all the time and is very irritating. It was not there in my first few months of usage.

Maybe time for me to call Tom Tom Sad
