Well I purchased MG Europe V7 and tried to download map sets to the card on my I3. My I3 has City Navigator UK on board ( not on a card ). Metrowizz wouldn't work for me. I chose the option to save the maps as an .img file and then copy this file to the transflash via a cardreader but the resultant file wasn't recognised by the I3. Only the UK maps were there.
Then I tried just using Mapsource like this:
1. Install MG Europe V7
2. Start Mapsource
3. Select map set needed
4. Save mapset as .gdb for future use. I have choice of V1 or V2. Chose V2 but don't know if this is necessary.
4. Send mapset to transflash card using "Transfer/send to device/pick transflash cardreader drive" option in Mapsource.
5. Transfer data.

This then indexes the maps, builds them and sends them to the card.
When I plug the card into I3, a green progress line briefly appears and then I can navigate using the maps on board and the extra maps I have added down to full address and postcode level via the "where to/adresses screen".
I can choose to use City Navigator or MG Europe mapsets, or both, using tick boxes on the "settings/map/mapsource" screen.

All looks good to me and doesn't need any non-Garmin software.

Has anyone else tried this?

I have used the exact same method to download U.S. maps onto another card.
Works a treat

Where did you get the US Maps from and how much did they cost? I just bought an I3 last week and am really impresses. Going to Florida next year and would be interested in taking the I3 loaded with maps of Florida. What size of transflash card would you recommend?
