Hello,

Would anyone be willing to try out a uk_m_5.dat voice file that i've made.
It need to be tested on a navman 530 as the N20 contains a different amount of samples that are also in a different order.

I have only changed the "TEST" sample with a southpark sample.
On the N20 this is accessed with the vol button but i'm unsure on the 530.

If so, PM me your email address and I will send it across.
remember to back up your old one before copying it to your sounds directory.

Thanks,
Warren.

The only problem is the file needs to be called uk_m_5.dat or uk_f_5.dat.
If its called anything else it won't load.

Are you sure? I played a bit with renaming and, at least on 530, it does not matter how sound file is named as long as it has dat extension and is in Sound directory – if you rename it, it will not be recognized on start up simply because the file name in “config.ini” does not match. So, if you’re renaming the dat file to something new, either edit “config.ini” or go to language selection screen and re-select the language and save.

Is it possible that the same could be done with the 520 I have?

I would love to change the tedious sounds for something cool.

Any advice appreciated Smile

Yes, on 530 the name of the file could be anything.dat but it has to be in the appropriate format.

I have to say, I haven't looked at the config.ini file, I will take a peek later tonight. Thanks for the info though.

The 520 will be supported but at the moment I haven't had much time recently to implement it. I will let you know when it's done.

Thanks.

Hi satbloke
Threads getting a little old but I'm hoping your are still working on this. I am interested in learning how to mod the files for my 530. Any chance you would share the process. 'Question'
Tom Tom's Aussie Ken voice would be nice on the Navman! ':D'
Very Happy
Cheers

I stopped work on this a while ago, I have a utility that allows me to change the voices on the n20 & 530. It's in a dos/command line state and needs cooledit to adjust the sound. It works for me at the moment and does the job quite well. At some stage when work calms down a bit i'll add the 520 format and a windows interface. (thanks for the post _Navigator)
I had a go at cleaning up the samples on both but it doesnt make a whole lot of difference because the speaker is so shi*te. The higher the pitch of sample the less distortion/vibration, so I guess thats why the male voice sounds like shi*e. In the end I installed an external speaker into the mic socket.

Thanks,
satbloke
