Hi there my ipaq 3970 has just died so I have a budget of less than £300 to buy a bluetooth PDA to work with Tomtom 6. Can anyone recomend a good one? Happy to consider non-HP (like a Dell?) Not bothered about integrated Phone - but needs to take SD cards.

Thanks inadvance!

Don't go down the Dell route. Very unstable, non-existent product support (personal experience)

You probably expected someone to disagree..... Laughing

When my X3 suffered the white screen of death I phoned Dell and received a replacement within a couple of days so I can't complain about their support service.

I've had no other problems and I'm currently considering an upgrade to an X51V.

I would stick to ipaq because is easy to find spare parts, screens, batteries, docking stations, etc.

I have the 4700. Bought it with PPC2003 but this year HP released an upgrade to wm2005 and moths later a fix for the initial issues = good technical support - (I heard dell did not launch a fix for their wm5 upgrade)

The screen of the ipaq is good sized, bright and clear. The speaker is loud and you have a SD and CF ports. Bluetooth and wifi connectivity. The processor deals well with TT6 in landscape mode and have also tried it with an igo version which looks fab.

Got mine back in feb for just over £220 off ebay.

Ive had good service from my Dell X5 although the screen is now going a bit which is to be expected after nearly four years of daily use.
Ive ordered another Dell, the X51v which is currently on offer around £260 with Bluetooth and WiFi and other goodies.
Big advantage for me with the Dells is that they have a CF and an SD slot.
I sometimes use a CF GPS card and have the maps etc on the SD card.
Makes into a true handheld navigation unit.

Cheap, realiable, works like a charm with TT5 and TT6, has built-in Sirf III GPS chipset, has Bluetooth, but you don't need it 'cause there's a built-in GPS.

I think you should buy a device with WM5 and I also would stay with HP.
Have nothing against Dell but do check the WM5 compatibility issues that the x51v has after the upgrade.

pocketpcthoughts.com or aximsite.com can give you some more info on devices.

Lets us know what youo decided to buy.

Hi Vilbs
I have the Dell x51v and its brilliant. My previous PDA was the Ipaq 2210 and that was brilliant too.

Now had the X51v for a few days a cannot get it to work with my wired Garmin GPS which works fine with the X5.
Compact flash GPS card works OK though.
Now bought a Holux 236 BT unit and all works great, even wiht the Holux in the glovebox.
Dell support totally hopeless though, telling me that it is totally impossible to get a wired GPS signal in. even though I know some people have it working OK.
I still rate the Axims as good value for money despite this problem
