Navman have been tellimg everyone that the new maps, software & postcode updates will be released mid October....WRONG.
Navman have just replied to me, see below:

Dear Sir,
With reference to your email, unfortunately the map updates have been
delayed a little, we have now been told to expect them to be available
in December 2006, we do apologies if this causes you any inconvenience.

Interesting and worrying. Could be a lot more special offers around if the worst happens. The market is more competetive and the winners will be those who can survive this Christmas.

The info is on the website but for a private customer there is a list of jobs/professions which they accept - if you have been a member of one of the professions listed then you can apply with documents supporting your application to prove the authenticity of your employment etc. The cost is something like £25 plus vat annually to become a member. I have circumnavigated that by asking a relative to do the shopping for me on their card. I (as a retired old guy) could not justify that sort of expenditure!

For your information and anyone else reading this, this is the information:
Individual Membership - Valid to certain employment groups - details listed
below. You will need to bring proof of your employment or professional
qualification plus a current home utility bill. The annual cost is £25
plus VAT inc. free Spouse Card. An additional card can be purchased at a
cost of £12 plus VAT, but it must be someone aged over 18 residing at the
same address, of which you must provide proof. This can be done either in
writing or in person at the warehouse. A photograph can be done on the
Additional Cardholder's first visit to the warehouse.

If you think you may be an employee of a UK or US Gold Card Company, you
can call Central Membership to check on 01923 830477. This number is
operated 8.30am til 6pm Monday to Friday, not weekends.

Individual Membership is available to the following:-

Current or Retired Employee of:-
Banking/Finance/Insurance
Civil Service/Armed Forces
Education
Fire/Rescue/Ambulance
Local Government
Medical/Health Service
Police Force
Post Office/Royal Mail
Airlines

Qualified as:-
Chartered Architect
Chartered/Civil Engineer
Chartered Surveyor
Dentist
Optician
Pharmacist
Qualified/Certified/Chartered Accountant
Solicitor
Barrister
Magistrate
Doctor

Current or Retired Employee of USA or UK Gold Card Company - Please contact
either Central Membership or your local warehouse to confirm whether the
company you work for is a registered gold card company. Retired employees
must provide a pension statement as proof of eligibility.

Sorry about the long post. Wink

This is very disappointing, I got the 520 as a Christmas present last year and it had out of date maps and limited post code facilities then. To have to wait until the unit is out of warranty before getting a map/postcode update is not on.

I've said it before but I really do think its time to eBay the 520 and get a better supported unit.

I really do think Navman have missed a trick here.

Geoff.

I know what you mean, but I wouldn't mind a Skoda - mind you a few years ago in CZ I really did see a Skoda driver pumping up his tyres with a bike pump....really Rolling Eyes
