Hello again gents:

Dave already answered a few of my questions (thanks Dave!). I have a few more I need help with. Hopefully this isn't the n-th time these questions are being answered on the forum. I live in Maryland but the PDA/GPS will is intended to help me find my way around the Washington DC metro area ::

1) In your opinion list the best 3 GPS mouse antennas for car and the best 3 Bluetooth antennas (in order of preference please) ;-). (I know I'm being pushy, but I would really like to buy one in the coming months and would like to avoid sorting through all the details in the articles :-) I've read most of them anyway)

2) Is a Palm better than a PocketPC for GPS related activities? Does the iPAQ h2215 come with a speaker? Will the h2215 be able to say voice cues? Will the PDA need a speaker to say vocal cues (rather obvious but just wondering what kind of speakers work and which don't....seems weird that PocketPC has speaker but can only play mp3 through headphone according to specs sheet)

3) What's all this about SBAS, WAAS, and EGNOS?? I know they rely on additional satellites and a ground signal to improve the accuracy. Is it worth it to get an antenna that utilizes these standards? At this point in time, can I get the same results with just a really good antenna?

4) It seems that the Ipaq 2215 would be the model to go for the budget concious. What other benefits would there be if I went with higher, more expensive models? (faster processing speed? more maps? )

5) How far can Bluetooth antenna go from PDA before losing connection??

6) Could I put a GPS antenna (wire/bluetooth) under a sun/moon roof in my car and still get a good reception?

7) Will I need more memory than what comes with the h2215?

8 ) Are there any GPS sleeves that will fit the h2215 and are mouse/bluetooth antennas that you put on the dash better than the sleeve type antennas?

Thanks again for your kind help! Mr. Green Thumbs Up

Hector

Hi there

1) define "best"... my preferences are dictated by temperature and looks rather than performance (which is pretty much the same nowadays anyhow). Your preferences will differ...For BlueTooth make sure you get the most battery for your buck.

2) Currently a PocketPC is still better than a Palm device. Multitasking, more memory, better choice of applications.

3) That's to improve the location accurateness (especially the altitude). Not important for street navigation but if your GPS receiver supports it that's certainly a bonus.

4) apart from the weak speaker there is not much that is bad about the 2215. It has the highest speed processor currently on the market, and it has double the amount of memory slots (two instead of the normal one :-) )

5) the standard says 10 meters (yards for you), but there are some differences in the power output. Can be anything from 2 to 30 meters (yards). But why would you want to know a GPS position that is 30 yards out ?!?

6) As long as the roof is not metallic or coated that should be fine. You'll have to try it out in your car.

7) You bet. But that's sthe same with all PDAs - you WILL need a memory card of some kind to store the maps. For example TomTom USA comes with seven CDs... You may be able to squezze the D.C. maps into main memory, though.

8) There are no sleeves for the 2215, and you don't need any since it supports BlueTooth... which IMHO is much more convenient (and power saving) than a sleeve.
