Hello....a newbie here

I have a PiN570 which I have usual UK regions.

I would like to take the unit to the USA on holiday to use in a convertible car (Hire companies will NOT rent these with SatNav). What software would I need to have...just the USA Maps (I only need West Coast). I have SmartST version 2005 installed ....will any Navman US maps work with the SmartST? I dont want to get conned into buying something and then finding out when I get there that the software in not campatible. I will have a laptop and usb etc to load maps to the PDA.

thanks

Steve

i realise this is a very late reply and may just be useful for other readers in future.

i did a 4500 mile road trip earlier in the year. it works quite well.

multi-lane freeways in LA are fun (not). you have to be extra vigilant and sometimes the phrasing appeared to be a little inconsistent. we had one major mishap which meant we overshot a ramp exit, but it did take most of the map reading stress out of the trip. (we had at least one paper map as backup)

the only other minor problem was a clear on ramp on the navman maps, but it was obviously never ever going to be built. nearest ramp was a big junction about a mile away in the opposite direction. funnily enough we saw someone else turning around in a similar manner. did wonder whether to stop them and ask if they had a navman too!

one other grumble is that you can't buy the maps without repurchasing another copy of smartst 2005. the maps are around £100. nice one navman :-P
