the voices may be limited, but I've run my C210 alongside a TomTom and built-in Toyota system and the 'Thomas' voice is definitely the clearest and easiest to hear.
The only problem that I have found is that the maximum volume still seems a little 'weak' when you're doing 70ish down a motorway and have the road noise on top of any other noise from the car radio etc...
...if only there was a way to link to Mio into the car radio so that it wasn't overpowered. |

Use the earphone socket to connect one of the little FM transmitter units that are sold for use with an iPod.

Good idea...
...but I have tried a small pair of battery powered speakers and this was worse than the built-in speaker, so I don't know if the output of the headphone socket is restricted in some way.
The downside of the iPod tuner would be that the car radio would have to be tuned into the Mio the whole time. If only it could cut in like the RDS traffic bulletins.
I might try headphones - but the lead may be restrictive |

Hi, this was the problem I had especially with the nuvi, the mio isnt that bad.
Having tried the FM transmitter thing, which was totally useless I decided to call at the local citroen dealers. They have now fitted a new wiring loom on the radio which has a cable with a 3.5mm plug comming out, this is now connected to the satnavs, whichever one I am using at the time. They also had to connect the radio up to their computer to set up an extra channel on the radio ie: auxilary input which I put it on when using the mio / nuvi.
So now I can play mp3`s or have voice instructions / directions over the stereo. I still find that with the nuvi the volume has to be quite high, with the mio C510 it is s**t hot, pardon my welsh. Granted it was a bit expensive but not when you think I was going to pay £40 in comet for a small set of speakers to do what you had in mind and then find space for them and batteries etc. So depending on what kind of car you have age etc , pop into your dealers and see what the score is..best of luck.

Good grief...
I've finally decided to upgrade to V. 3.2 and www.mio-tech.be "decides" to go offline...
Now, I can't even boot to MioMap on my C510... sigh....
Guess I'll have to wait for the site to be online again...
cheers |

Tried to get in touch this evening myself.
They're probably overloaded with people complaining about the bugs in v3.2 and even more people complaining about the 7 digit postcode not working.

I sincerely hope so
I have just restored my 710 entirely to 3.1 and old maps from the CD, and uninstalled the Upgrade program from the PC.
IMO it's better off like that until they have it sorted - I have a long drive tomorrow and don't want dodgy maps or sudden reboots.

I use a spare speaker that came with my hands free car kit. They are designed to work on "low" power unts such as phone kits,PDAs etc. Works a treat with my PDA based sat nav....still waiting tom take the plunge with the 510E when the bugs are gone.
You can buy the speaker from the likes of Maplin and they work a treat and are very clear _________________ TomTom 720

And.......I take it what you are saying is it depends on your internet connection and speeds etc on how long it takes to download.
Mind you the way things have turned out it would have been better to leave it as it was..
