Does anybody know what manufacturer of system is installed as standard in the new Honda CRV. I have just bought one and would like to add the speed camera database, but dont know which database to download, or even how to update it using the DVD.

Any knowledgable help would be appreciated.

Hi SimonPledger,

Welcome to the forum! Thumbs Up

My knowledge of "fitted" SatNav systems is poor. Whilst some OEM or third party fitted SatNav systems may be able to save details of "Home" and "Work" etc, they (fitted SatNav systems) are not capable of accepting large custom POIs (Points of Interest) such as our camera database, which has in excess of 10,000 locations. This is because fitted SatNav systems use either CD or DVD for their maps and don't use rewritable media for storing POIs that change on a regular basis, such as a camera database.

A lot of PDAs that run SatNav applications and PNDs (Personal Navigation Devices) are able to use our camera database as they use storage cards (e.g. SD, CF, etc) that can have the data rewritten.

Can you please check with whoever supplied/fitted your Honda SatNav unit and ask them whether it will take large custom POIs? If it can, then the likely format may be a form of CSV (Comma Separated Value) format. However it might be a unique format. You would probably have to burn a new CD/DVD with the map data and the new custom POIs, which would probably not be allowed by Honda or the supplier of the map data (either Tele Atlas or Navteq).

So, to sum up, it's unlikely that you will be able to use the PocketGPSWorld camera database with your Honda SatNav unit. However please check that your unit can take POIs and if it can then we'll ask some of the techie people to have a look at developing a file for use with your unit.

Regards,

Does anyone know what the outcome was ?

I have a friend who has recently bought the latest style CRV with the in-built sat nav. He wanted to know if the cameras could be added so I said I'd try to find out for him.

I note that the is a Compact Flash card reader in the new CRV above the DVD slot. He can load MP3 files etc onto the card for playing and I wondered if this allows POI's to be added ??

If anyone has any experience it might save us both some considerable leg work.

Thanks

Honda use Alpine as their supplier of SatNav.

Speed Cameras or even third party POI's cannot be added.

This has been discussed in some detail over on the Civinfo.com site. There have been some attempts to add additional POI's to the DVD without success.

Kremmen, thanks very much for the info, I suspected as much but thought the CF card slot may have opened the options up for the CRV.

Cheers. Gav
