Beginner wants advice

I already have a tomtom go 300 which I use in my car.

I am considering replacing my mobile phone, so I thought it would be a good idea to also get one which I can use on foot as I walk around towns.

I am being told that I need both a compatible mobile phone and a gps unit.

Do I have to carry around two devices if I want sat nav on a mobile?

Is there not a mobile phone that does it all?


I would appreciate any advice as I know very little about this subject.

There are several smart phones that will run software such as windows pocket PC. These can be connected to GPS receivers via bluetooth and will act as a portable unit as you advise. There are now some units such as the Mio 701 which have the GPS built in as well. These then give you a phone a GPS unit and a PDA all in one unit.

Have a look at the P3300 which has the BT, WiFi and GPS built in, I don't think they are shipping as yet, but shouldn't be too long - Mike
