Yes, you only get the "hands" if you don't have a splash screen, but if you add one of the wrong format you will get the black screen.
Try downloading one of the ones from http://www.gomo-web.de/ as a test, because they will download in the right format (just need renaming).
When that is working, you can open it in your Paint program of choice and match all the settings (size, rotation, bit depth etc) to make your own instead.

As I've said dozens of times recently, in order to avoid accidentally calling your file "splash.bmp.bmp" (which won't work), you MUST go into the options of Windows Explorer or My Computer and turn OFF (i.e. UN-tick) the option to "hide extensions for known file types". Find it in Tools menu / Folder Options / View tab / in the "Advanced" box, (and while you are at it, turn ON "Show hidden files and folders" in the line above).

Here's a widescreen one for anyone who fancies a picture of a Soarer

There are a few alternatives (both widescreen and normal to be had here. They are already in .BMP format so you can save them all straight to your TomTom.

Any 'Paint' program will do, as long as it can Save/Export as a BMP. You just need 24bit colour and the right number of pixels, then rotate it 90 degrees.

I don't know which Device you have but the pre-X10 Devices were 320 x 240.

Well, I'm not sure my TomTom has quite enough 'GO' to cope with over 300 mph from a standing start in a quarter of a mile in about 5 seconds. But in this particular case, it didn't matter Wink
