Hi there
While on holiday in France the voice instructions on Tomtom suddenly failed to work. On closer inspection I found that all sound on my 2210 had ceased to function. Now having returned from my holiday I have found that it is a hardware fault (Speaker) and nothing to do with Tomtom. Can anyone out there recommend somewhere that I can get my PDA fixed please?
By the way, apart from having no voice instructions TT5 guided me through towns, cities and the countryside flawlessly.

Thanks oldboy I will give them a try. I also have another couple of addresses and I hope to resolve the matter.

Try

http://www.ipaqrepair.co.uk/index.php

You can either buy the speaker and DIY or have them repair it

If you use your Ipaq predominately for Sat nav and repair is uneconomical, I do recommend looking at Brodit as a great solution to both mounting and powered speaker via the headphone socket.

Hi stevei and joni
Thanks for the info on repairs to the Ipaq 2210. I think I will follow Steve’s suggestion first and try to fit the speaker myself. It is the cheapest option (£9.48) and although I have never taken my PDA to bits before it should be interesting.. Thanks both.
Trevor.

Hi stevei
I have ordered the speaker and will let you know how things go when it arrives. Having studied the website I recon that all Ipaq users should add the address to their favourites. It could save one a lot of money.

Hi there
I have the new speaker for the Ipaq 2210 and are ready to fit. However, I know that many of you out there will think me a bit of an idiot but the fact is that I have spent the best part of an hour trying to separate the case. I have taken out 2 screws on the back, 4 screws from inside the battery cover and two screws from the sides but nothing moves. What have I failed to do? Or do I have to fetch my hammer and cold chisel. I wait with bated breath.

The case is 'clipped' together and so you need to gently prise the sides apart with a platsic knife or similar but be careful as the clips are easily broken.

You can see the opened case in the in the thread at Mobile01.com. The original page is in Japanese but clicking the Hyperlinks will reveal some good images of the opening process:

Thanks Darren. All is now ok. I had noticed the clips on the sides of the case but didn’t want to start prising about until I had confirmation to go ahead. Its not the easiest thing to take apart without causing damage.

Anyway, the useless speaker easily came out of its housing and the new one went back in ok. All now works perfectly.

I must also thank Steve I for recommending the Ipaq spares site, their service was first class and the price quite reasonable. All Ipaq users should bookmark the address.
