Hi all,

Got home from work and my new mio had arrived, have just finnished having a gander on what instructions there were with it. Couple of questions.

1) It says to charge it up for around 8hrs prior to using for the first time,
but there wasnt a charger with it only the car connection. So what do I need to do?

2) There are two DVD`s enclosed , one for the maps and the other for software etc, do I need to install them on my pc?

When I have got used to it, I will more than likely hound you all for other bits and bobs, like voice files etc.

Thanks....DIL

Dilcymro,

I have a 510 on order but as an anorak I have downloaded the manuals from the mio website. They probably have a lot more info than what you have been supplied with.

To charge your 510 you need to plug your mini usb cable supplied to a usb port on your computer. It will then charge for you.

The discs are for the mio transfer software (to update speed cameras, synchronise outlook contacts, download mp3's etc.

Hope this helps, but bear in mind I do not have mine yet.

Bigrids.

Thanks bigrids for the info, just in the process of registering it, have had a bit of a play and up to now am quite impressed with it. Not very keen on the mounting option though....think I will have to invent another device
to hold it.

Regards....Dil

Dil,

You're welcome. Suggest you have a look at the brodit clip. I have one waiting here to go into my car when I get the damn thing.

I can really recommend these brodit clips. Go to http://www.dsldevelopments.com/brodit/brodit.asp.

Service is excellent.

I second getting a Proclip, it's exactly what I have done too from DSL and I can help with a bit of advice too.

You'll first need a Proclip for your car and then you have two options. There is a specific part for the C510E/C710 (215114) or there is a generic Tilt/Swivel mount with a Richter plate (215058) which both look exactly the same and as Dave at DSL was having problems getting hold of the Mio specific one, I went for the generic one which is perfect. It also has the added advantage that any standard Richter compatible mount like the TomTom PDA ones fit too.

I hope that helps

You need to get the specific Proclip for your car. Go to the DSL Developments website and click on the "Proclip Search" button to find one for your car.

http://www.dsldevelopments.com/brodit/brodit.asp

Then, you either need to click on the "Satnav Holder" button and then select "Mio" & "C510E" or "C710" and click "Show All" to find the specific part for the Mio (Item: 215114).

Or, go back to the Homepage, scroll right to the bottom of the page and you will see "Richter Mounting Accessories Mounting plate with Richter adapter, with tilt swivel" (Item Number: 215058) which is a perfect fit for the Mio holder and should have better stock availability.

Hope that helps.

One point to note with mounting the C710:

The microphone for the handsfree function is bottom right of the unit. When I originally mounted mine, no-one could hear me when the car ventilation fan was running, "are you somewhere very windy?"!

So bear that in mind before choosing which mount to buy!

Thanks for the advice re the mounts etc, I think I will only need the one specific for my car, (will have another look in a mo) I have adapted one of my nuvi holders to hold the mio C510E, so now I can use the same mount to hold either the nuvi 310 or the mio. Problem is that the cable for the mio goes in the bottom (nuvi goes in the back of the unit) so it will not fit where I had it before, hence thought I will just get the part that fits over my air vent on the C2.

So far am quite happy with the mio, but methinks it will take a while to get used to using it and finding what it can do, the nuvi is a lot easier to use.
Regards....Dil

DIL,

you can charge up the battery from your PC with the USB lead supplied. I also bought on eBay a cheap mains to USB charger. It works fine using thr same USB lead and frees you from your PC or the car for charging the battery.

You can also use the following:

I've purchased thie for my Navman originally, but also works on Mio.
