but what does it mean?
and being in the uk, does it need to be set to metric?

Laughing Out Loud...so set to metric it is then.

mind you would be easier if it was listed as kph and mph. :D

statute is miles, metric is kilometers. for uk set it to statute

yeh statute is what i have it set to. Laughing Out Loud

must admit though, i cant ever recall hearing the term "statute" before.

yeah, it's usually referred to as 'imperial'. something i never understood was when britain changed from imperial to metric why they didn't change the sweets to mint metrics?!

More to the point, why did they change at all? Or why not go the whole hog (not that I'd prefer that option but at least we'd know how to express mpg in l/100km)?

Probably because we Brits are perverse. An example of just how perverse we can be, is that many (most?) of us thing in Celcius when it is cold, yet Farenheight when it is hot!
