Yesterday I tried transferring data from a new France SD onto a new Kingston 1gb SD, all the files seemed to transfer but the card was not recognised by my Classic. A 512mb Viking works fine. Are there problems with Kingston media or 1gb capacity in a Classic?

Thanks

Matt

You can get problems with any card if it has a defect but some people have problems specifically with Kingston cards in certain devices.

Any idea if France will fit on a 512mb card? How about files that can be left off the copy?

Thanks

Thanks, I'll buy another 512kb and try that. Are there files that can be excluded?

Matt :D

I have a Kingston SD Card on my PDA (512MB Ultra) and Digital Camera (1GB and have a 1GB Ultra on order), my son has 1GB Kingston in his PDA, two other friends have 512MB Kingston's.

Never had any problems. But I'm sure you will have a number of other recommendations for different makes.

I know Kingston cards are OK in many ways and applications but I was thinking specificaly about use with Tom Tom. It's not the first time I have read of problems on this forum.

I don't know, but I've always stuck with Lexar and SanDisk high speed cards and never had any problems in any device, including the 510.

I bought a bog standard Crucial 1GB SD card (just over £20) for my TT1 a couple of weeks ago and it works fine. As I understand it, with the high speed cards you are paying for write speed, and that's not really what you need when you are mostly just reading map data off the card. You just need an adequate read speed. I've noticed zero difference in behaviour using the new card compared to using the original supplied by TT.

I have a Kingston 133x 1 Gb card (from picstop) and it works just fine in my TT1.

On the Kingston 1GB SD Ultimate x133 the read/write speeds are 24 and 20 (can't remember which way round at this time of night).

There is a difference for sure, well on my Mio168 with TTN5.21 there is. I went for a day trip to Lille today and swapped my 512MB Ultra Card, from my Mio, with the cameras 1GB (until the 1GB High speed arrives). Mistake! My previous trip to Lille several weeks ago, with the 512MB High Speed Card in place, and the navigation was perfect, never went wrong once.

Today with the 1GB Standard? Don't ask. Oh OK, a total of six mistakes because directions were coming at, or too close to, the exit/turn/junction.

No, 7 mistakes, I shouldn't have married my wife 37 years ago because I had nothing but grief on the way home because of my deviations from the chosen route. Sad

So now I'm the most stupid person on the forum so I may as well go for GOLD.

I'd pre-printed an autoroute map with the route of all the sites we planned to visit, about 7 miles in all. At one point we went 'off the map' because my mate had spotted something he wanted to see. Naturally we got lost, but I had my trusty TomTom with me. I set a route and off we walked, left, right, right, left etc. We found on arrival that we had been just a few hundred yards away. Guess who forget to set a 'walking' route. All the one way streets in Lille........ Say no more. Gold medal for Lost_Property. Embarassed

You can hurl insults and abuse at me because with the luck I've had today, I'd never find you. :P

If you use a standed SD Card you may have problems as the device cant read the maps as quick as when using an high speed SD Card, Also it will take longer to calculate the routes, Your directions will be delayed, Its like having an old computer!
