I'm having some issues using the MP3 player on the Nuvi.

When connected to a PC, you can access the internal memory of the unit (and optional SD card). It shows up as a USB mass storage device. On the device is a directory called "MP3", which is where you must store the MP3 files or else the device does not seem to be able to locate them. Worse still, you can't create directories to organise the files, because again, the MP3 player can't locate the files. So all files are stored in one huge mess in one place. This seems to be a pretty major limitation.

I have just bought an SD card with a plan to put all my music on it. Now it seems I have to first convert all my WMA files to MP3, store them on the SD card, and then create links (shortcuts) from the E:\MP3 directory to the actual music files stored on SD card.

That's pants! Am I missing something?

Cheers for any pointers...

m8eBoy, are you sure your nuvi can't see mp3s in folders other than the "MP3" folder? My nuvi sees all mp3s in any folder on the internal or external SD card. As for organizing them, it sorts by the fields on the mp3 tag. If you select "browse" with the mp3 player selected, you see All, Genre, Artist, and Album. The last 3 have subcategories you can select and play. You can't create playlists, but there is a workaround for that too.

With the nuvi hooked up to a computer, open up any mp3 folder in a tag editor, select the songs you want on the playlist, change the Genre field to the name of the playlist, and save. Then when you select Genre in your nuvi mp3 player, you will see all your playlists. The SD card can still be divided into folders for use in other mp3 players.

You can download the tag editor for free. Search tag editor here and on Google. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, Lew. So it is user error after all!

So how do you point the MP3 player to look at directories other than the default "MP3" directory? If I do a "Browse - All", for example, only the files in the default MP3 directory show up. If I can sort this out, then I think I'm good.

Thanks again!

Ignore my last reply. You're absolutely right, the Nuvi can detect MP3 files on the device not matter where they are located.

I'm not sure what happened the first time I tried this, but it definitely was not the case. Anyway, I'm happy again :D

Thanx!

you need to buy the optional extra transflash-ready-digital-satellite-receiver-card for a very competitive £3,499.99.

It works a treat!
