yes, but you can get them sent via SMS from the Nokia site, you just select "save" and it changes the settings for you
and best of all, it's free
as for TT crashing etc. I just changed from an aftermarket voice (Vikki) back to Jane and it worked fine for the short 30 minute trip I just made
speed camera warnings worked too although I have the POI hidden and just the warnings turned on
it even kept the BT connection with my Motorola headset _________________ SW

I need to upgrade mine to firmware 5.0609.2.0.1 01-03-06
Any idea where i can take it? I live in the Bolton/Manchester region.
Spoke to a couple of CPW and they have NO idea what firmware they can upgrade it to. They'll know once they've done the upgrade!!! |

warmasice wrote: | jon29 - Initially my n70 (still on firmware v2) was crashing when i used the normal speed camera database.. the one with multiple ov2 files - evertime it crashed i had to restart the phone.
To resolve this i did the following within Change preferences / Manage POI:
1. Select the 'Enable/Disable POI' option, then deselect all poi's.
2. Select the 'Warn when near POI' option, then deselect all poi's.
The above step only had to be done once of course. Now each time i want to run tomtom i follow the steps below and it works everytime:
1. Ensure my phones bluetooth visibility is 'Shown To All'.
2. Check the Paired Devices section, and delete my gps receiver if its there. (tomtom will have automatically paired your receiver when u previously ran it).
3. Turn my on the gps receiver, and wait until its locked onto a signal (important!).
4. Only then, run tomtom, at this stage it asks me for a passcode and i enter '0000'.
I have used the steps above many times and have not had a problem, other people may find different steps work but it does me fine. I get the occassional No GPS Device message, but thats quite normal - it happens when u have a poor satellite connection, but connect almost instantly (the phone doesnt crash at all). Im from birmingham and I regularly travel to london and leeds. The camera database isnt very important to me, but...
I tried using the single file camera database and so far hasnt crashed my phone, but i havent tested it thoroughly. I have a feeling if i use it for long enough it MAY crash it - but i can only guess! I'm due to travel to london this weekend and will test it then. If all is good i wont bother upgrading to v5 firmware.
Hope this helps. |
Has anyone tried my steps above? I'd like to know if they've worked for others. I would also like to add, i am successfully able to use the single file camera database with the setup above without any problems! I have been testing the single camera database file for weeks now. I regularly make long trips to london and leeds from Birmingham and i've had no problems at all.
Also, i forgot to mention one more thing. Within the bluetooth options menu, make sure the bluetooth connection option is "Set as Unauthorised". This ensures tomtom asks you for a passcode each time you start it. I dont know if it makes a difference but just thought i'd mention it incase it matters!
Thats it. Let me know how you get on.
p.s. I'm still on orange firmware v2. |

one more thing, if you decide to use the single speed camera database file, you should (obviously) enable it, and also warn when near it, within the manage poi's option.
all other poi's should be deselected as mention in my prev posts above. |

They should have by now. I got mine done elsewhere in the Midlands six weeks ago, but they told me it was due anytime. Give them a bell. _________________ All this Tunnel at the end of the light........ |

Mine works fine too even tho i use a generic BT GPs receiver (the black one with a blue globe in the middle). I also use the Speed Zoned POI camera's with generic/home made warning sounds.
The connection does break for like 2 - 3 seconds and then comes back straight away.
So guys - the fix is to upgrade the FW to V5.
Thanks for all your help contracts and everyone else too. |

V5 firmware made no difference to me
still drops BT connection, sometimes it dosn't even locate my motorola headset let alone the gps
IMO there's something technically wrong with the N70 hard/software
whilst driving, the only solution that works for me is to hit the hangup button then the media button to close/restart tomtom
otherwise it never finds the gps _________________ SW

Just upgraded to generic v5 firmware on the N70 and I still get regular lock up's. I did notice when I got the phone back everything seemed fine, worked for 1 hour no problems, but when I got home I added the pocket GPS speed cameras the lock up's came back every 5/10mins max.
By the way I am using the original TomTom reciever.
I've only had the phone 2 days from Vodafone - I have another 12 days where I can send the phone back and cancel the contract, unless I can find a fix in the very near future it's Bye Bye N70 - anyone recommend any other phones with similar features? I see there is an N80 out there...??? |

its funny how people complain about lock ups when its not clear what steps they've taken to resolve them. yes either nokia or tomtom are to blame, but you have to make do. i and my girlfriend both have n70's on version v2 firmware. we're using the speed camera without a problem but make sure u use the single file version. if u need help setting up read my step by step instructions above to help u.
sorry to be blunt, but it seems obvious a v5 update doesnt work for everyone. |
