TomTom 6???

Hi

I need to buy a second copy of TomTom Naviogator 5 (GB/Europe on CD) for my wife's PDA but the TomTom site says this:

"Currently not available through TomTom.com"

Does this mean that version 6 is about to be released?

If I manage to buy TT Navigator 5 from a retailer, what has been the upgrate policy in the past (I would expect that recent purchasers should get a free or very cheap upgrade)

In the past, I believe purchasers 3 months or newer were given a free upgrade, however this was in the past and may not happen again.

You have been warned.

You could of course install your copy of tt5 on your wifes PDA??

as Greenglide has confirmed you do not own the software. You have a licence to use it for one person on one device. The licence is personal to you and cannot be given to anybody else. The only way you are allowed to use it on a second device is if that device is for your use and you delete it off the first. Making a copy onto a second device, or for anybody else's use, as you suggested, is both a breach of the licence conditions and illegal. It is also against this forum's rules.

I think it is helpful to point out to somebody with a problem that a way suggested to overcome it was both a breach of their licence agreement and illegal. I am sorry that you dont.

I am please to see that OP has done the best thing and contacted Tom Tom about his original problem, which was that he was unable to legitimately purchase a second copy of TT for his wife.

I am not sure the relevance on your comments on TT allowing upgrades. You still need to have a legal copy, and you can't put the upgrade onto a different machine or give it to a different person.

Finally I am sorry to disapoint you and ruin your argument but your memory is probably fading somewhat. I have never asked any questions on this or any other forum on rest area POIs.

So, when I eventually 'pop off', I assume that my TT software, and all the other stuff that I have on my laptop, PC, and PDA will all die with me ? Perhaps I need to amend my will to ensure that the kids destroy the lot ??!!

- They have completely failed to address the issue of why they aren't selling the UK Maps & application any more (ie without the GPS hardware)

- They refer me to a completely unsatisfactory list of retailers (eg Halfords and other high street stores) which I suspect specialise in TomTom GO rather than what I want

- They expect me to buy an end of life product (if I can find it) and then pay an undefined upgrade cost at an undefined time (next week? next month? ???)

Quite honestly, they can hardly occupy the moral high ground regarding licensing and piracy when they treat a loyal customer who is trying to do the right thing in this way.

Having used TomTom for many years I am starting to look around at the competition.

ps - I replied with a request for further infornation. Watch this space...

You can buy maps direct from TomTom, on SD card - either individual countries or the whole of Western Europe

Last year the Upgrade from V3 or V4 to V5 was £46 and you got the maps of Europe CD as well.

Upgrades seemed to have a priority over software on its own as you couldnt buy the new software on its own for months.

Any dates tomtom give you about release dates are pure conjecture and probably only true on a special calender used only by tomtom.
