I entirely agree with you when you say that the present programme works just fine. Its up-to-date maps we need. If only we could get a map update once a year, now, that would be brilliant. |
You can do exactly that. If you are only interested in UK, you can download an updated map for 49 euros. I have recently done so, and unless there are some significant improvements I shall probably not bother with TT6

Can you clarify where you can get this updated map please?
I have TTN5 v5.000 (4890) would I / should I upgrade?
Thanks

You can buy it from here. The UK map I bought about 3 weeks ago is version 632. It also covers major roads of Europe.

When I look at the site it shows €59.95 for the GB map. Based on previous upgrades the upgrade to V6 will probably cost a similar amount and include every European country map. One question is will you be able to buy the upgrade and use the V6 maps with V5? However V6 may be better than V5, we don't know yet. |

Sorry Leigh, when I gave the link for buying the latest maps, I forgot to answer your second question.
I would definitely install the free upgrade 5.21. It incorporates a number of bug fixes, but for me the major advantage was the ability to plan and store itineraries with multiple waypoints when not connected to a GPS receiver. This was something I used a lot on TT3 and missed when TT5 first came out. Lutz's workaround (shown on the stickies at the beginning of this forum) doesn't work on 5.00, but is fine on 5.21

Robin,
Many thanks, I will download the 5.21 upgrade and buy the latest map. I am hoping it has roads such as the A120 Dunmow bypass and the new(ish) A130 in South Essex neither of which appear on my current map. _________________ Leigh

The A120 Dunmow bypass seems to be on the latest map. You didn't give enough info for me to check out the A130

Hi Robin,
It is the newer section of the A130 going South from the A12 towards the A127 and the A13
Cheers

There is a new section of the A130 around Wickford on map 632 which is shown as Under construction on my 2003 AA Road Atlas. What is shown as the A130 on my atlas is now A1245 on TomTom - I guess that's what you wanted to hear

Hi Robin,
I think that means that it is there OK. My existing map did not recognise the A130 south of the A12 at all! Maud (as we call her!) seemed to think we were driving through fields and kept trying to get us to turn round, or right, or left, or anything really to get back on a road she recognised!! _________________ Leigh

The new section of the A10 is the same, driving through the fields and all that when I was last up that way.
I did a check, if you go onto Multimap.com and go down to 1:50000, they use TeleAtlas on there, not sure if its the same version as on TomTom but has the new A120 Dunmow bypass on it...

I have managed to get the latest map onto my Mio. A130 seems all there OK, but no sign of the new dual section of A120 from M11 to Braintree!! So much for up to date maps _________________ Leigh

The original TTN5 map (v562) correctly showed the "new" (at the time of release, 3 year old!) A130 but did not show the A120 Dunmow bypass. So 12 months on it seems all you get for your 60 Euros is the same map but with a new version number.
I thought that Gerald Ratner & Alan Sugar were the masters of selling crap but Tom Tom take the concept to a whole new level. |
