Just seen the Tom Tom web site and details of their package complete with the HP iPAQ h1940 and what looks like a very nice cradle for the iPAQ.

I already own the TT bluetooth and an iPAQ2210, but does anyone know if the cradle in the pack is available to buy separately as it seems to be a neat compact solution for me.

That'll be the TomTom Car-Kit and it is available as a seperate item, see http://www.tomtom.com/products/products.php?ID=214&Language=1

Thanks Darren, perfect! Although looking at the compatability chart it doesn't list the iPAQ2210 Confused Any idea if this will fit. I've emailed Tom Tom the same question.

I really don't know, however, Brodit do have a compatible mount, I'm awaiting one for review which offers the same features, built-in power etc, it's shown on their home page at http://www.brodit.com and can be bought in the Uk from Handnav (follow the link in the right hand advertisers menu).

I'm a huge fan of Brodit mounts, we have reviewed many already, see the GPS Accessories link at the top of the page.

I've got the Brodit mount for my 2210 - excellent piece of kit and looks neat.

I've got the Brodit mount with built in plug for my 2210 - it's brilliant. Nuff said.

The TomTom Car Kit doesn't yet support the 2210, TomTom are bringing one out, expected release date is sometime in November (e.g. this month).

Thanks all. Must admit the Brodit holder looks very neat. Any idea on a good reputable supplier in the UK?

Hi!

While we're on the subject of mounts, is there an active mount for the 1940?

(I'm looking for a 'proper' one of these where power is supplied by the port on the bottom of the iPaq - so that no power cable needs be plugged in.)

Thanks,

Dave

Treefrog,

The tomtom mount for 1940 is active, and is available separately.

See my recent thread for a review.

I could not find a mount that really did what I wanted so I ended up buying the closest I could get and modifying it. I needed a mount that was permanently fixed to the dashboard and that also had an integral amplified speaker as the Ipaq 5550 speaker is inadequate in noisy conditions.

I thought about connecting it to the car audio, but all these devices I have seen have had to have the car audio dedicated to it. It is a shame they could not just overide the car audio to give messages like a phone or traffic bulletin.

In the end I went for Arkon CM55 from Expansys. This connects to the Ipaq with a 3" USB cable for power (not included) and a 4" audio cable (inlcuded), not perfect as I have to put two plugs in, but I intend to make the cable plugs embedded in the mount in the near future so they slip in the sockets when I slide the Ipaq in. The unit also provides a 5V DC output for a device such as the TomTom Bluetooth if you need it.

The holder is universal but I did not like the large grab arms that grab the slim Ipaq. I bought an HP Cover Pack FA119A which is like a plastic glove that fits on the Ipaq with a see through door and after removing the arms from the mount, stuck it to the mount. This looks far better and is a very secure holding.
