off the beaten track

this is the scenario.........
I am out for the day and find a random place I want to stop at and explore, I dont have the correct mapping area for memory-map, I want to use my 168 to record where I walk to so that I can retrace my route back to my car.
What are your recommendations for the easiest, most straight-forward ways of doing this please?
Google have thrown up some suggestions such as Vito Navigator and GPS-Tuner, but these appear to do much more than I am ever going to need so I dont want to clog up my memory with program files that will never get used. Is there a nice, small, simple and intuitive, user-friendly program out there?

I use GPSDash2 but Beeline GPS will also do what you want I believe.
