I have been offered a second hand ICN510 which I am trying out. Excellent when it works but the GPS fix aquisition time can be twenty minutes or more. I am told that there is a s/w update which will fix this. However the only sw update available on the Navman site seems to be when you purchase maps or map upgrades.

Can anyone provide any helpful comments please.

Thanks

There is a software Service Pack for the Navman 510, Smart ST 3 available at the Navman site, although it is now a few years old and may have already been applied to the unit you have.

Go to Navman site and click on downloads, then use the drop down menus to choose your unit You should end up at the SP download.

The service pack download can be found by visiting

http://www.navman.co.uk/

Got to In car navigation - Customer support - Navman software updates

Fill in the details, and download the file, unzip it and follow the instructions.
It is not an update to speed up the acquisition time.

The Navman can take a long time to get a fix if you are in motion, not outside in clear view of the sky, or using it in a car with an athermic windscreen.

there is a "fix" whereby you delete the "My Flash Disk\backup" folder on the 510 and it will rebuild it when it reboots.

This has been successful for some people with poor gps acquisition times.

Just be careful which folders you muck around with!!!

Generally speaking, with mine if I drive to somewhere then switch the 510 off and remove it from the car, when I get back into the car and switch it back on, it will re-aquire within about 10-15 seconds. If I drive off and then switch it on, it can take a couple of minutes to re-aquire.

I have also heard comments that a gps signal can be picked up quicker by accessing the signal screen (the one with the map in the background). I'm not really sure if it works as I have no problem getting a signal on mine.

Worth a try - hope it helps.
