Our decision to award contributors was based on the feedback so we did listen and this has satisfied the majority of those contributors who were against the charge.

We did not publicise this far in advance because it would have resulted in a flood of false or speculative posts purely to obtain the free membership and we felt the method we chose was the fairest. Similarly with regard to donations it was the simplest and fairest option to award free membership to all who had made a voluntary donation of any size. If we had announced this in advance then the natural result would have been a flood of £1 donations.

Free speech is one thing and that thread clearly supports the fact that we allowed all to air the views and vent their anger in full. However there is a line to be drawn, we were subject to personal attack, our addresses and other information was posted and there were attempts to use our forums to advertise other start-ups. Whatever the rights or wrongs we considered this a step too far.

As you say, water under the bridge now, lets look to the future!
