|
|
I just got a Tmobile MDA vario (htc wizard/ imate kjam/ qtek 9100) and I wanted to get a GPS system for it. I had some questions that I was hoping you guys could help me with:
1. TT just announced their new GO GPS Car systems. Does this mean that they will release a new version of the Navigator (Navigator 6)?
2. I really like the text to speech feature and I would love to get that. Now, even if I buy the Navigator 5, will I be able to get the upgrade for free or do they usually make you pay for an upgrade if the release a product soon?
3. I tried to look at Arkon's website for a powered mount for the vario. However, I could only find one for the HTC Magician and the HTC Universal. Does someone know of an Arkon powered mount for the HTC Wizard?
Thanks,
MT
(PS - I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this - I'm going to post this question in other forums as well) |

Please do NOT double post. Thank you.
1. Eventually, yes. No timeline though
2. As we understand it now this TTS may require a special sound hardware. If not then this should also be offerable on the PDAs.
Depending on when you bought the v5 version you may get v6 for free or may have to pay a small upgrade price.
3. There are more mount manufacturers. Have you tried HR, Brodit or Seidio? _________________ Lutz

Thanks.
I'm sorry I should have said that I was going to post on forums other than on this website. I did not mean I was going to double post
You bring up a good point about the special sound hardware. My understanding was that they take the text from maps and convert that to speech using the software. Do you know where I can find out more about these hardware requirements?
I will check out the other manufacturers. I did check Brodit, it does not look like they have anything.

TTS is specific to the GO 910. It is not available on other GOS's nor will it be available in v6 upgrades. _________________ Darren Griffin |

It's that the definitive word now? Or still speculation? |

In that case, is there an alternative to TT Navigator 5 that I can buy? I really need a GPS system that will atleast tell me what street I should turn on...
Thanks,

Copilot will, I think.
TomTom will tell you what street, it's written on the screen. |

ALK CoPilot are doing Text-To-Speech, Mapopolis are doing it, and that's about it.
A number of other vendors have extensive voice files (Navigon for example uses 435 different files) and can spell Motorway numbers, but these are not true TTS engines. _________________ Lutz
