|
|
I have just tried to migrate the TTN5 to a new PDA as the old one broke.
Software seems to have installed OK (need to run updates for latest version) but the activation key is invalid as is has been used before.
Called TT support in the netherlands, and eventually got told to fax the serial number of my TTN5, the activateion code the new PDA gives, and the proof of purchase for the new PDA.(I sent the delivery note (with serial bmbers and my name on it) as the invoice has yet to appear in the post)
Got a mail back 14 hours later saying they are unable to proceed as I dont have proof of purchase. That was last night and have had not further contact from the support team.
why do they make it so difficult to migrate to a new PDA ? |

As long as you have only activated once previously you should be able to obtain a new activation code at www.ttcode.com.
If it's any consolation I spent 45 minutes on the phone to Tom Tom's "support" dept. last night trying to get an incorrectly cancelled TTN3 product key re-activated. I had the dubious pleasure of running an ad hoc training session for some idiot american called Troy. Finally mangaed to stop him talking long enough to be able to explain to him very, very slowly how Tom Tom's activation site works. Didn't do me any good though. Had to put the phone down in the end as he seemed determined to reinforce the stereotype that americans don't listen - they just wait for their turn to talk....
Present company excepted Lutz. |

sent the details of the fax again, this time by upload as a response to their support system.
Decided to call the support desk and got through to nice chap called Will, he listed and then looked at the details (also had a PDF of the invoice sent to me from supplier of PDA) and then sent me a new activation key which has worked.
Now I just need to upgrade to the latest version to get the internal GPS reciognised as part of the TTN5 system and im firing on all cylinders.
As I travel 40,000 miles a year just to and from work, I CAN wait to try it out ! |

have now got it working, and had to reset the TTN Traffic as it seems (quite rightly) that you cannot have TTN traffic on two devices.
Safety cameras to be loaded tomorrow, Ive had enough today ! |

Interesting to read that TomTom still make it very difficult for users to migrate to new PPC. What happended to 'the customer is King'?
I had a problem in September when my trusty IPAQ died. Despite sending receipts of the new PPC and comments that the old PPC had died they refused to issue a new activation key.
It took the threat of legal action to remedy this - they were in breach of their own contract.
Anyways moved to another supplier who does take customer service seriously, i.e. they are helpful and reply quickly – usually respond well within 24 hrs. |

I see support from both sides, and as a service provider myself (run a team of IT guys for a London based stockbroker), it always surprises me how many people put up barriers between themselves and those they support.
Earlier in the year, my 12v car lead died, and TT made me send it back (2 weeks) then sent another one (another week) and it was the wrong one. Because they had closed the support call, I could not remedy this, and despite trying had to buy a new one myself. After writing (by letter there is no other way (what a huge barrier this is) to them, I got a mail back saying that I would get a new lead (I did not want one as had bought one), and 3 months TTN Traffic FOC (which is what I wanted as I had paid for a lead, and also lost the use of the system for six weeks.
Dont get me wrong its a good product, in my letter I suggested that there were things that could be done to improve the system, but not a bean on the reply front.
Early days etc... |
