I bought a navman pin 300 (mio 168) a few days ago and have used both SmartST V3 and Tomtom navigator 5.

When using tomtom i notice that the screen refreshes several times a second giving a smooth scrolling effect on screen as i'm driving, but with smartST the screen seems to refresh once per second so giving a jerky effect on screen.

Is this the way smartst works or is there anything i can do to make it as smooth as tomtom?

and1968,
as a user of Destinator I appreciate where you're coming from. The other half has Tom Tom and it has that lovely smooth movement to it while Destinator ans Smart ST doesn't. But I think its just the Tom Tom softare that smooths it. I don't know why others don't do the same because its much more pleasant to view. Maybe its patented or something. Who knows.

But for your reassurance I've run Tom Tom alongside other packages and although others don't look as nice it makes no difference to the ability to navigate.

Tom Tom appears to have a higher degree of prediction built into it. If I enter the Tyne Tunnel Destinator and Smart ST V3 would pause on loss of GPS signal. However Tom Tom would continue to predict course according to your speed and route for 30 seconds or so even without a signal.

I'm sure someones gonna give you a much more technical answer than mine but I do agree that it is a nice feature.

Thanks for the confimation jimbo_hippo, and i agree with you that tomtom must be using some kind of prediction software to give the smooth scrolling, so it looks like i'll be sticking with tomtom then.
