The following website shows how to download and apply safety camera data.

http://www.filesaveas.com/tomtomone.html

This site also has a mini review of the TT ONE, and also compares it with the GO 300.

Anybody know if high speed SD cards work and show improved working of the TT ONE as compared with the standard SD card?

pdriver, TBBD, thanks for the replies.

Tried the TTOne extensively over the last two days and can only say, it is an impressive little unit.

1) how good is the traffic update system on tom tom 1 and is it a pay for service thet requires use of any other deveices mobile phone e.t.c.

Yes you have to pay a yearly subscription and you do need a GPRS (not GPS :p) and bluetooth enabled mobile phone. In my experience the traffic system isn't brilliant, but your milage may vary.

2) will i be able to use it for long journeys the journey is approx 5 hrs

As long as the unit is plugged into a power source it should keep going forever.

3) is this unit easy 2 use and has good sound and screen my sight is not the best and my car stereo isn't to great.

Car Stereo? Confused Easy of use is in the eye of the beholder, however TomTom is generally regarded as the easiest system of its type to use.

4) how good is this at re routing journeys due to traffic problems e.t.c.

I find manually rerouting to be better than letting traffic do it tbh.

5) whats the camera detection like

Non existant. It can't 'detect' cameras at all. Instead you can install a database of known locations.

Pardon my total lack of knowledge of SatNav. might I ask a couple of questions please?

It has been suggested I get a TT1 ( by someone who regards my map based navigational capabilty as being less than my skill in flying a NASA space shuttle) ;-)
So
1) TomTom 1 ( and other satnav with d/loadable databases.)
If a safety camera database is downloaded, can the device give audible warning that you are approaching a hazardous area with a databased safety camera ?

2) memory cards SD or whatever. Do these hold the UK map, and if so is it easily possible to upgrade to a larger SD card, and in some way copy the map.

3) which of the cheaper end ( say 300 or less) have full 7 bit postcode features?

Thanks for any help

Yes it can be set to do so with various sounds and at any distance. I have mine "dingging" at 300 for cameras and 800 for laser sites.

Yes the SD holds the map. Yes you can use a larger card and copy the map between them. They will only work in one unit though otherwise you would need to activate. I copied my origional card onto a bigger card with no activation and either card will work in my ONE.

The ONE is chearper at the moment and has full postcode search. Although its never perfect and probably has some missing. Especially the newer ones.

Just tought I'd say thanks for all of the info chaps - reading this really helped me make my decision.

I've just got myself a tomtomOne from PC World.

I paid £223.99 and got £10 off anything else I wanted (so paid £3 to get a 128MB USB Flashdisk).

I've already installed the SCamera site POIs- many thanks!

Where can I get a copy of europe, to put on my spare SD card? ;)

Ta,

Oms.

Motivated by the enthusiasm in this forum I splashed out on the Tom Tom 1. Have yet to install this in the car but I also want to use it on the motorbike. Can anyone suggest a suitable cradlefor this and has anyone tried it out to know if the device withstands the vibrationa nd climate in the UK ?

Looking at the working temperature range of the unit, I don't see a problem with using the unit on a bike.

I'd probably keep mine in my jacket pocket, with an earphone attached (for voice instrustions)...

Or, in a map pocket or a tank-bag.

I personally wouldn't have mine out in the open, unless it was protected by waterproof sleeve of some sort.

Did you consider the TT Rider? just curious. I think I like that the TT one sticks with TA mapping.
