|
|
All,
While at the aforementioned superb event, I took the opportunity to speak to TomTom and TeleAtlas, as a big frustration I have is that when I discover a new location that could be allocated to one of the pre-loaded POI Categories, I cannot save against that category. I've either got to load it as a favourite or under a new POI category.
I asked TomTom why they cannot enable this. The answer, albeit probably a blag, was that it was contract related. While I could understand it to be this if I wanted a location to be listed that wasn't originally there, I felt this was on dodgy ground. All I wanted was the ability to add new locations to existing categories...
When I spoke to TeleAtlas, they advised that they've got access to almost 27m POI's but the software companies (e.g. TomTom) choose what they want and pay for them.
So, if the pre-loaded POI's don't contain the details of your local shop, throw your toys at TomTom. And, if you cannot update the preloaded categories with new locations, again, throw your toys at TomTom.
Can I ask for others to contribute to this post to a - see whether I'm a lone voice or b - demonstrate that it's a pertinent issue that TomTom should consider and address.
Many thx.

The preloaded PoIs are not very good ( appalling actually) so I have largely ignored them.
If they were good you wouldn't need to add to them. But a chance to add some new ones wouldn't go amiss. The chance to delete the ones you don't want would be equally good.
And... we need the limit on our own PoI categories removed NOW!! There is a rumour that the number of enabled PoI categories slows the GO down. Let me choose how slow I want it to be. The restored limit of 39 extra categories is a joke Has anyone in TomTom used a 700 in anger across Europe?
PGPS speed cameras is 19 categories
There are 4 French categories for cameras.
I have Dutch, German, Swiss and Spanish.
The some petrol stations: Tesco, Sainsbury, Shell and BP in GB.
Some French ones(say) Auchan, Carrefour, Leclerc.
German: DEA, Shell. Plus some supermarkets Toom, Kaufof, Karstedt.
The "Quickam". Oh!! No room for that.
And.... I haven't added any of my own Favourites yet
No motorway junction PoIs
No Work Sites and locations
No French toll booths
No room for PoIs of "interesting" places.
What are they playing at? Other satnav stuff is not so restricted.
If there was no limit, maybe TeleAtlas would make some available. Of course, if they supplied the rubbish ones that TT give us, then maybe not _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

Totally agree with all of the sentiments above.
Something needs to happen with POI availability/capability for the GO because at the moment it's just not good enough. _________________ Thanks,

That hunt is long over. We have done that late last year. But since it is legally not permitted to tamper with that data there's no point in pursuing that further. _________________ Lutz
