Hi

I have just bought a leadtek 9553.

I have installed the leadtek navigator that came with it onto my palm e2. It works fine - I can get satellite fixes no prob.

I have tom tom navigator 5 which is able to connect to the bt 9553 device (I used 0000 as the mating code) - the 9553 goes blue to indicate the connection but tom tom says no gps device found.

What do I need to do to tom tom for it to find the gps device

Thanks in advance

Mmmmm,

On the GPS status page is the orange/black disc turning.

If not two possible reasons

1. data from bluetooth is in wrong format eg NMEA or SIRF
or
2. try hitting configure tab and select other GPS device.

Switch off re-boot and try again.

But I need to know what happens when you try the above.

Regards

Hi

The little disc does not turn.

The bt gps comes with a navigator app which connects perfectly to the receiver. It can connect and display long lat and altitude etc.. for either NMEA or SIRF.

I have selected "other GPS device" but no change - i still get no gps device

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Connect your BT GPS to PC.

Using Leadtek Navigator software, ensur proper sat fix obtained, set to NMEA protocol, baud try 19200, ensure you can see the NMEA word strings in the design development view box (this is critical), then set the NMEA word message to:-

GGA=1
GSA=5
GSV=5
RMC=1

Set all the rest to 0

Let me know how you get on

Regards

Another interesting thing....

I just disconnected from my desktop and tried to connect from my palm with tt nav 5 and got the "gps signal was lost NN seconds ago" .... where nn increases in increments of 5 secs.

this I guess must be reported by the gps...

Is there no low level config of the bt gps that can be done with tt5 ?

I also have compass which works fine on the palm ...

It seems daft that everyting but tt5 can comm with the gps receiver !!!

MMMmmmmmmmm

Took me 2 weeks to get my GPS sorted out with TTM5.

3 points,

1. On the 2nd line is the string I sent , [PC to GPS]$LTC,1552,1*69, [PC to GPS]$LTC,1551,2,1,3,0,5,5,6,1,7,0*77.

Did you have to send this string in order to get the BT GPS to start Sending NMEA words to Leadtek Nav software on PC, I don't need to do anything. I firstly fire up the GPS, then fire up PC through BT connection and the Leadtek Software immediately shows the NMEA strings

2. USE ADVANCED TAB and change VALUES IN TABLE, then click ok, Set BT GPS to use only these NMEA WORDS GGA=1, GSA=5, GSV=5, RMC=1, Set all the rest to 0, USE ADVANCED TAB NMEA SETTINGS AND CLICK OK

3. Had you seen this before ?

"gps signal was lost NN seconds ago"

Look forward to your reply

Regards

2. Did this and got much the same

3. Nope - I haven't seen this before but then again maybe I hadn't waited long enough. In the meantime I have now go a "waiting for valid gps signal"

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I assume you have ABSOLUTELY no other software running on the Palm !

If that is the case then:-

1. "waiting for valid gps signal" which specific screen was this shown on.

2. Have you looked at the GPS status page to see if any change e.g. orange/black disc turning.

Mmmmmmmmm

Yip, I've had enough tonight.

Food for thought

If on the GPS status page top left under "GPS status" it says "No GPS device" this means it has not detected your BT GPS.

If it say "no valid GPS signal" then your BTGPS has been detected and the black/orange disc should be turning once every second, which is the update rate.

When a valid GPS signal received it will say"other Bluetooth GPS" and the black/orange disc should be turning and some of the sat bars will be blue.

Gnight

What I get is "no valid gps signal" on the gps status screen and the disc has made a quarter turn and turns no more...
On the main screen I get the big arrow and underneath the message "the gps signal was lost nn seconds ago". After 5 minutes it changes to "waiting for a valid gps signal"

Mmmmmm

Sounds like a COM port connection issue with palm and tt5, your GPs is ok, your palm using other software is ok, its just with tt5, I connect through COM 4, however I suggest you have a look at:-

http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?Language=1&FID=3236

and let me know how you get on after reading the link.

Regards

I have already seen this article but it relates to the pocket pc and not palm.

Also, after selecting other bt device in ttn5 I do not get any option to look at the ports
