NMEA MESSAGE WORDS and RATES

Ok, this is for the tekkies :-

I use TTM5 and MapviewGPS

I currently have my BTGPS NMEA message words and rates, (where 1/n = rate in seconds) set as follows:-

1/n
GGA = 1
GLL = 1
GSA = 2
GSV = 6
RMC = 1
VTG = 1

Now i can look up find out what they mean, but what is the optimum settings for both the words used (or not) and rates selected.

It all works fine with these settings but I just would like to know if there is an optimum (more efficient ?) setting(s).

Any thoughts ?

This depends on the program you are using. For TTM you can run

RMC - 1
GSA - 5
GSV - 5

and switch everything else off because it is redundant.

HOWEVER this will in no way affect performance. NMEA is just too slow to congest the serial port in any way.
