i know it's not realy a tom tom go related question but there wasn't any related index for my question, maybe a general enquiery index should be made? anyhow hears my question.
for a while now i have been wondering what these blue camera like things are on the roadside usualy on the dual carridgeway near me any way, they don't look like speed cameras to me, i allways thought that they were somert to do with gps then i got gps and well.. dunno anymore! i've done a few searches on the web+forum search on this site but nothing came up.
as i havent a clue what they are i would have gone passed at some point over the speed limit but never heard nowt about it, if anyone knows what they are then let me know
thanks in advance of the info. |

They're probably TrafficMaster sensors.
Have a look at Steve Warren's UK Speedtraps website. In particular here.

Yes, almost certainly part of TrafficMasters PTFM network. These read your number plate, create a hash code so that the VRN is not identifiable and then when you pass a sensor further down the road they identify you and calculate the time you've taken to travel between the sensors.
The hash code part ensures that whilst they operate in a similar fashion to SPECS they can only be used to calculate traffic density and identify jams etc and not to prosecute you. _________________ Darren Griffin
