POI uploading not working

I am currently trying to upload the locations of various safety camers in the UK onto my Navman iCN510. I downloaded the info from this website. In MS Excel, I then sorted the locations into speed order, 30mph 40mph etc.... and I then created a new .csv database for each speed.

Now when I try to upload the POIs using SmartST Desktop and input the file, the data reads normally:

50.41816 -5.06349 GATSO:0004
50.4181 -5.05306 GATSO:0006
51.0111 -3.04042 GATSO:0020
51.20254 -2.98922 GATSO:0022
51.32941 -2.98026 GATSO:0029

Nonetheless, when I go to transfer the data to my Navman, I get the following error:

"No POIs found in input file"

Any ideas? I have uploaded 4 other POIs to my Navman and had no problems at all

The format needs to be:-

Long, Lat, "Name"

e.g.

-5.06349, 50.41816, "GATSO:0004"

You can make the file using Notepad and when you come to save it then call it name.csv and change the filetype from Text file to All file types.

Many thanks Tim. I was forgetting to inset the " " around the name of the POI.

Another little problem now. I have over 2000 rows in my .csv document. Subsequently, when I come to upload it, I get an error message (again) stating that I am over the 16MB limit.

How can I get around this? Divide the file into two?

I suspect that something else is causing that problem. There are more than 2000 entries in the single Gatso file, and that loads OK. Are you running low on room on the storage card, perhaps? Maybe you could try removing one of the larger map segments, trying to to install your POI again and, if successful, reload the map afterwards?

Ok, so a week later and I am still having no joy with uploading the "Safety" camera locations to my iCN510 as the file is too big to upload using SmartST Desktop software.

Is there anyway I can go about adding the files manually, converting the .csv file into the .ini file and uploading it using MS ActiveSync?

Rather than messing with the file, try a different sd card.

On occassion I have had this problem, and its due to the sd card getting fragmented, or a failure on the sd card. So now I back up he sd card, re-format it, and do a restore. I have also got away with just defragmenting the card. But I use a usb card/reader writer for this as advised by navman.
other possibilities include

a) corrupt data file
b) faulty sd
c) duff read/wrie switch on card

Why sort it into speed order anyhow?

I suggest you load the data as suggested, giving you 5 files, and the ability to have different bitmap icons as i do. It will also perform quicker than one large file.

I've got to ask, why are you messing about with the files in Excel? Just get the Tom Tom OV2 files (Gatso, Redlight, mobile etc..), put them through the OV2DMP routine and upload the resultant files direct to the Navman - If you need the OV2DMP file, let me know and I'll send it over - seem to recall it came from the Tom Tom website originally.
