TTN5 Upgrade Period ends 1st November

I have just received an email from TT saying that the upgrade offer of 59 euros will cease as of the 1st of November. 8O

My dilemma is wether to stick with TTN3 or make the jump to TTN5. Question

Currently I use TT3 on an Ipaq 2210 with a wired receiver.

Any comments for and against would be welcome.

I have another problem in that my PDA, Toshiba e350, is not in the compatability list. Do I upgrade and hope this is sorted in the future, or do I accept that the upgrade path is now closed to me. Neither option seems acceptable. I don't have long to decide.

Having used TomTom Navigator 5 for a few months, I now prefer it to TTNav 3 – mainly because of the newer maps. Before anybody jumps to say the maps aren’t as up-to-date as they should be please note that this is a personal view due to where I live. The A34 / M4 junction and the newish Silverstone bypass (A43) are on the TTNav 5 maps.

The functions that I miss in TTNav 3 are: Avoid area; and to a lesser extent the setting of road speeds.

What you can do is purchase the upgrade (and get the MoWE included) and continue to use TTNav 3 on your 2210, until you’re ready to upgrade.

I have to say I do like TTN5 now, I really like the road name feature which appears on the maps, this is really useful for me.

I agree with Privateer buy it now and upgrade when your ready.

I have the same problem as evostick above, my wife has a Toshiba e750 that is not supported with TTN5 so we are still using TTN3. However TomTom did say that this support would be forthcoming later this year when the original upgrade was announced.

Anyone have any insight on using a wired receiver (holux GM210) with a tosh and TTN5? I know it is a problem of how the Tosh uses serial over the USB host interface.

Yes you can plan itineraries without a reciever attached. What you can't do is view the route TT will want to take.

I got a copy of TT5 and quite liked it (not legal at the time) and have since upgraded to TT5 properly. Think it's a better product, better UI. Only feature I miss and did use was resetting GPS receiver to a given location... got sat fixes for a new known location faster that way.

If you do upgrade:

1. Make a note of your current TT activation code. Whilst the upgrade invalidates use of TT3 code (in theory(, if you have the code to hand can still use TT3 (in practice).

2. You get maps of Europe for a bargain price.
3. Traffic is better integrated in TT5
