Hi,

Does anyone know a way to restore the factory settings on the crazy i3

Hi,

The following was posted early on in this thread, and was provided by Garmin in response to a request from another member, (Gary I think it was) who I hope won't mind me repeating it again here:-

Warning! This master reset will lose any user data saved locations etc.

Switch unit off.

Then press and hold the left hand button as well as the wheel button then also press and hold the power button until a message appears on the display asking you if you wish to erase user data? You would select "yes" to this.

The unit has now completed the reset

Hope this helps!

It may also lose all the satellite ephermeris and almanac data and take 5 to 15 mintutes to reaquire it (longer if you don't have a good view of the sky).

Comet are currently showing an 'in-store' price of £179.99 on their web site, although it might not be that easy to find a branch which actually has them in stock.

It is also possible to buy them at other on-line retailers for a similar price, but then there is the cost of carriage (if any) to be taken into account, and I know that a lot of folks, like myself, would rather go out and buy one 'over the counter', as it were.

Bought mine from Comet in Warrington yesterday for £179.99. They had seventeen in stock Smile

Locked up on the way back to the office (using firmware v2.3). Have upgraded it to 2.6 and no problems so far - seems very good for the price.

I’m a student and a part-time mini cab driver, for the past 18 months I’ve had combo Ipaq 3630 (£60 second hand) + Navan sleeve 3000 (£100) + TomTom 2 (£10 from ebay). The biggest problem I’ve had with this setup was unreliability. Sometimes it would lose signal in the middle of the road for few minutes, sometimes Ipaq would reset by itself while doing 80mph on motorway, all of these quite embarrassing when you drive someone. So basically, I’ve decided to go for a stand-alone unit, and i3 at £180 from Comet was the perfect solution after reading top reviews here.

I bought i3 3 days ago, and here is what I think about it so far.
I understand that i3 is a budget GPS, and after using TomTom for a fairly long time it certainly feels that way. I’m using firmware 2.5, so some of problems might be firmware related, I would appreciate your advice guys. My major complaint is lack of “distance to arrival” information on the screen (in London, ETA is quite useless). Is there any way around this, or do you think it is likely that Garmin will include this feature in one of future firmware realises?

I also find speed info quite inaccurate, few times it was stuck on 11mph or 20mph for good 30 seconds, although my speed was varying from 10-30mph during that time (London traffic ). Could this be firmware related or just the way i3 is?

Another complaint is regarding post code address finder. I’ve used it 5 times so far, and once it couldn’t find right place – it would ask for postcode and house number, and it would offer some street nearby. Was I just unlucky? Did you have similar problem (especially in London)? When entering postcode, it has to be entered with a space in the middle, quite annoying when in a hurry. Also when entering address, it was rather slow (certainly much slower than my antique Ipaq 3630). Plastic wheel feels quite flimsy, I’m not convinced it will last many thousands clicks (hopefully i3 will prove me wrong).

All in all, quite reliable unit (I was without signal mostly few seconds at times). I just don’t know if it is for me, or if I need something more advanced (like forthcoming TomTom One). Decisions, decisions…

As mentioned above, Argos do have a great price for this GPS at £169, but remember if you can collect the item at your local Comet store (where the i3 was £179 last Sunday when I bought mine, only to go up to £199 when I checked today), they will not only match the Argos price, but will also beat it.

I went back to Comet today and was refunded the price difference plus a few pounds AND also given a £10 gift card as Argos are offering a gift voucher for purchases over £50 (£5 voucher) and £100 (£10 Voucher).

Remember, the i3 must be available in another store within 10 miles of the Comet store.

I hope this is of some help to anyone who wishes to buy one of these fantastic little gadgets.
