I just tried night mode today; the buttons on my 510 don't light up either. I think I prefer the day colour scheme anyway.

The lighting up of the buttons in nightmode is linited to the 520; the 510 doesn't support this feature even when using the 2005 software.

The buttons on mine DO light up, night or day, when pressed connected to an outside power source or not! I presume forum members are referring to continuous illumination? Idea

That's correct, on the 520 you can configure them to remain illuminated. Although Night Mode is way to bright for my liking, hard to tell how it differs from Day Mode!
