Arjun,
If you pm me your email adress I'll send you full instructions and the necessary additional files.
MESSAGE TO MODERATORS
WHEN WILL YOU UPDATE THE SITE WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS AND FILES I SENT YOU??????????????????????????????????????????????????????
This is a great site and I've offered my services to improve the destinator section and have provided many people with advice and assisted with the installation in destinator as it's not as easy as TOM TOM.
LETS PROVIDE A LITTLE MORE USEFULL ASSISTANCE WITH DESTINATOR, NOT JUST TOM TOM !!!!!!
SORRY TO RANT but if you check my PM's I've stopped deleting them now and there's currently 25 messages from people using this forum requesting assistance.

Your not the only one who is fed up with a lack of feed back from the Forum system!
I have tried for months to get a link placed on the Speed Camera page for:-
Quote:
We have an overlay for the POI (Points Of Interest) map, which when installed on a
Garmin mapping GPSR, will overlay the map(s) underneath, be they City Navigator, City Select, MetroGuide or just the basemap that comes with the unit.
Following on from that thread, in fact very soon after you made that post on 15th August 2005, I modified the Safety Camera database Release announcement to include a link about the Garmin side of things:

I've read through this thread and I've probably missed something.
I bought a hp 2210 which came with dodgy software. I amd a bit of a coward and went out and bought an authentic TT 5.
On the dodgy card, the PGPS icons and software were there but I honestly don't know a thing about how to install FROM SCRATCH on my new card. I really don't want to mess it up so I did what was mentioned at the very beginning of this thread, installed Active Sync, Sprite back up and also Poiedit. In your instructions it says "set the Poiedit up to use the PocketGPSWorld POI Sync service"
Question 1. How do I do this?
I did go on the site which contains the camera downloads and appeared to download what was required but I couldn't find them anywhere.
Question 2. Does the 2210 have to manually create a folder to accept the download or does it create one when it's put in the cradle? ? If I have to do it manually how do I do it?
I have the spare dodgy card and tried restoring the back-up I made of the authentic version on to it but it wouldn't install everything. I thought that by doing that, it erased everything from the second card but the speed camera database is still on it.
Sorry if these (which may appear to you learned ones to be stupid questions) but spent a lot of money on it and don't want to ruin it. I thought I knew enough to be able to do it myself but very obviously not.

The page for the PoiEdit instructions can be found here.

If you don’t wish to use PoiEdit and want to manually install the files, then download the ZIP file onto your PC. Unzip it, and transfer the .OV2 files and their respective .BMP files to your TomTom Navigator 5 map folder on your PocketPC.

There’s no such thing as a stupid question if you don’t know the answer. We’ve all been there. Don’t for get to use Sprite Backup at least once to back up your system onto your Storage card (with a self-extracting restore file). Also backup your storage card regularly to you PC or CD.

Your link was correct. Thank you.
I was following on, on this thread as posted by Mickey F. and felt that the comment I made below was relevant to his comment!
The link I was asking for is still missing from the Speed Camera download page!

MikeB and the rest of the people who can update the Speed Camera download page are extremely busy, as he has already said in a previous post. Don’t forget that none of the staff or the moderators are paid (we’re all volunteers) and we all have day jobs.
I’m afraid that I don’t have access to update the Speed Camera download page, however as a help I have included your link in the monthly camera database update announcement, of which the most recent one has been read over 1,200 times.
I'm trying my best here, you know!

Finally, should it be straightforward to back up using Sprite and re-install on the old 256 Mb (dodgy software) card so that I'll have a reserve?
Have you got a storage card reader/writer? If you haven't then get one as they really are useful as you can transfer data much quicker and more reliably.
Copy the entire contents (hidden files and all) of your good storage card to a new folder on your PC. Then copy the contents of that folder on your PC to your "old 256 Mb (dodgy software) card" and you'll then have a decent back up should your card fail.

Richard,
You seem to have taken the full brunt of this email, which wasn't intended!
I've done the leg work in creating the instructions and setup files so this site can get the thanks from other users.
You'l notice the thread you posted was my orignal thread back in may where I also posted the instructions for others to follow. However it's difficult for other to find this thread and they don't necessarily have the knowledge to edit the voice file, which is why I now email it to them.
Is it within you ability to create a sticky or can I even email you the 3 files to include in the csv monthly update directory??
I am also willing to create the required dat files if you wish so you can include these rather than just the csv files.

There can be 3 setups for speed cameras.
The first is a single file that contains all the cameras together, without any reference to what type. This is named pocketgps_uk_sc.csv and found in the 'single file version/csv file/other' folder.
Second is the 5 file version that divides the cameras into types. Gatso, Mobile, Specs, Redlight and Temporary. These you will find in the 'csv files/other' folder.
Third is the full 18 file version that divides the Gatso and Mobile files into speed zones. There are 7 each of the Gatso and Mobile files. These are found in the 'speed zoned/gatso/csv' and speed zoned/mobile/csv' folders. Add to these the Specs, Redlight and Temporary files as above.
I have not included the Continental file because you will only need this if going to the continent.. But should you want it , it's in the 'csv files/other' folder.
The .bmp files are in 'ov2 bmp files' Folder or for alternatives the 'alternative bmp files' Folder.
You only need 2 files, a .csv and a .bmp for each group.
Remember to Delete (or REM out) the Header Lines in the .csv files with Notepad.
When you've decided which set you want, use SmartST Desktop to import each .csv file and associate with it the correct .bmp file. These are the only files you need.
