I have noticed GPS position unreliable a couple of times even though the receiver 'mouse' has had a green flashing LED. I'm only guessing, but I think that the Tosh doesn't always like the external power 'on-off-on' sequence that you get when starting the car.

The last time it happened I had requested a route whilst parked up in a multistorey car park, TomTom gave the usual 'route will be planned when GPS position reliable' type message but after exiting the car park and driving up the road the LED in the 'mouse' changed from flashing red to fast flashing green but the PDA still showed position as unreliable. I exited the TomTom application (which also exits the GPS Driver) and then restarted TomTom without doing any sort of reset on the PDA. TomTom then reported a GPS fix immediately and planned a route.

If you perform a soft reset on the Toshiba, then uninstall the TomTom GPS in Remove Programs and this should release the GPS driver.

Thanks for the info. I've tried reinstalling the old driver but it tells me it is in use or in ROM but it isn't!

Also one thing to bear in mind, that several people have experienced with Toshiba's is that they don't seem to like to bring back a signal after you switch the ignition back on if TomTom has gone to sleep and powered off the Pocket PC. Make sure the Pocket PC is kept alive whilst you're getting petrol, it should then restart a connection and start acquiring.

It's the Tomttom GPS and it's a Tosh e350. Sadly it's nothing to do with unrecognised roads. This is a permanent problem - that's why the hard reset: it never gets a fix again. The GPS status screen just shows a complete lack of signal.

Initially I put it down to a faulty cable but the fact it worked after reinstallation assured me it wasn't. It works fine immediately after reinstallation and then, as soon as I switch off the ignition and then start off again, it won't get a signal.

I've not had a problem up until now - the new A130 just showed me driving through fields but still picked up a signal ok.

Another Essex Boy!!!

You will often get GPS Position unreliable when TomTom cannot recognise the road that you are on. Take the new A130 for instance not in the mapping database so you get GPS Position Unreliable. If you pull far enough off the road you can get this too.

Thing is it should come back again when you get back on a recognised road. You certainly should not need to do a hard reset or install sofware again.

What sort GPS are you using and what PDA? Not that it should make any difference. When this happens can you go to the GPS status screen and see the data updating.
