I have the BT-338 and just upgraded firmware via Easydevices...

It works better although still takes a while to lock on sometimes.

Question is does anyone out there know exactly how to set one of these up?

It seems there are so many questions

- Sirf or NMEA
- TT5 Set up and which device to use
- Sirfdemo, what does this do?

All I want is the GPS unit to work its best, I find with current settings it sometimes drops signal in tunnels, although told it can't do that with Sirf III.

Also when I got TT5 I was connected using NMEA 0183V2 and 38400 Baud settings, since TT5 updated to 5.10 I now use "Other BT Device" and "serial 6" which works fine.

Any help or a link to a good page for setting up and explaining what you do would be great for a lot of us I think.

We know the device inside out (we have picture proof of the inside...)

You may not trust me but NMEA 38400 is all you need to know.

SiRF protocol: Not understood by TTN5 - so stay clear off that
SiRFDemo: professional tool to mess with advanced parameters: You will not want to do that. Only if you want to use the device for outdoors navigation you may have to use SiRFDemo to switch static Navigation off

When you select "Other BT device" then TomTom automatically sets it to NMEA 38400. So this is equivalent to setting it to "Other Cable" and selecting 38400 manually. Either will work. Then select the outgoing serial BT port (in your case COM6) and all should be running.

our partner site GPSPassion has an article about SiRFDemo, but that is just for folks who enjoy messing things up and then trying to get it back working - which incidentially is exactly the state they received the device in.
