Hi
How do I activate a new catagory of POI within TomTom5. I have just loaded Little Chef POI database into the Maps folder together with all my other .ov2 POI files. I can't see it within TomTom under POI manager. All the existing ones are there to select / de-select but not any of the new ones that I have added.
Cheers

Is it possible that you have exceeded the limit of 40 POI categories that TT5 is only capable of handling? _________________ Richard

Yes! That was it. I knew it would be something like that.
Thanks very much for your help.
Best Regards

I don't really understand how POI categories work. As I see it there are a number of pre-defined categories in TT5 (eg. shops, petrol stations, amusements, beach etc.) and those that are added manually (whether by copying an ov2 file into the map folder, or by creating a category via the TT5 software). What I don't understand is whether it is possible to add the contents of an ov2 file (eg. petrol_all.ov2 to the existing Petrol Stations category). Is this possible, or do I have to have more than one category for essentially the same thing? |

No. The existing POI categories are not editable. I use very few of them myself because I find they are very incomplete, and in some cases, inaccurate. _________________ Richard

I agree with Richard the inbuilt ones are rubbish but you can add 40 of your own and they can be ammended try this site, http://www.tomtomfree.com/POIdownload.htm they do groups of POI's and they can be added to, and of course the safety camera database from this site is great. |

Richard & Hoppy
Thanks for your advice and the useful link. It amazes me that you can't add POIs to these categories. What is the point of having a category "Beach" (for example) when there are no POIs in the category? |
