Actually Matt has taken over the role of Intellectual Property Compliance Officer. He is collating and reporting infractions to eBay and other bodies.
Each suspected offering is subject to review before being reported, meaning that at least 2 of us believe it to be a sale of our database.
So far eBay are removing all the listings that we report. There have been a few complaints from advertisers. Which we take seriously and try to redress any errors on our part. The problem is that some of these listings are either vague or misleading.

| I have always liked to click on "Ask Seller a Question" and ask if this is a copy of the free database we can all download from Pocketgps ? This then gets posted on his ad and so helps another users. |

Furthermore he says he will e-mail the file, and not only copies the PocketGPSWorld logo, but simply posts a copy of the PocketGPSWorld instruction page. Surely 3 copyright thefts in one!
I have tried the "Ask seller a question" feature, but it does not seem to have come up on the ebay auction page.

The question will only show if the buyer wants it to. when you send a question to the seller, they will be given the option of making the comment public or keeping it between you and them.

I wouldn't think he would want it to show then!
I asked him if this was the Free PocketGPSWorld data base, which was copyright!

How can it be proved that it isn’t the PocketGPSWorld camera database? Can we demand a copy to check against our database and to ensure that the special dummy cameras which are a unique signature of the PocketGPSWorld camera database are not included in the eBay item?

Just FYI, on 05/08/2005 I lodged a q. on www.tomtom.com thus "Can you please tell me the difference between your chargeable UK speed camera service @ www.tomtom.com/plus/service.php?ID=8&TID=4&Language=1 & the free http://pocketgpsworld.com info you used to link to ?
Their response on 12/08/2005 was "The TomTom speed cameras are supported by TomTom (if you encounter problems), regularly updated (more accurate), and verified. We offer no guarantees regarding non-TomTom POIs and cannot support them. With best regards, The TomTom Customer Support Team" |
