Mio 168 Going Wireless ??

I connect my Mio to the internet using activesync when its in the cradle or when I connect using IR.

I want to connect using a wireless system & I have been told I can get a SD card that can connect with my pc so I go online using my mio anywhere in the house/garden etc.

Can this be done & if so what do I need to buy for the PC & Mio to achieve this.

I believe there are two ways to do it - either WiFi or Bluetooth

My setup consists of a Belkin wireless router (£40 from eBuyer), with the desktop pc connected via a network cable to the router. My Mio 168 connects to the internet and my network via a Sandisk WiFi + 256MB SD card which I bought brand new and sealed from eBay for £37.

The strength of signal is amazing and I have walked more than 150 yards down my road with my Mio 168, and I can connect to my indoor network and play mp3's etc.

All you need to do to get everything networked properly, is to enter into your router which computers you wish to allow access. On my Belkin I had to input the MAC addresses for each computer into the "MAC Filter" page in the router via your internet browser. I didn't seem to have to do anything on the Mio, setup-wise.

I do sometimes experience mp3's that lockup or playback in a choppy manner, but this is due to the quality of the encoding. At first I thought it was the hardware or network connection bandwidth, but seeing as mp3 is so small this was clearly not the case.

I have ordered a SD wi-fi card for my Mio 168 from ebay for around £45. It's a Spectec card which just sticks out of the PDA by 6mm. It doesn't have any memory built in, however, but alot of people report the sandisk wi-fi and memory can't be used at the same time anyway Question

I'll re-post when I get it to let you know if/how it works

I bought my Sandisk card from a USA eBay seller called Memory Mall. I got it in May this year but a few mins ago I had another look and noticed that they no longer seem to sell it, so I guess I was really lucky. Shame because my sister wants one for her Mio 168 too! The postage cost at the time was £6, although the actual cost to them was a mere $1.50.

The Sandisk card CAN use the onboard RAM at the same time as the WiFi. How do I know this?.....Well I have downloaded files from websites and ftp servers onto the onboard WiFi card RAM using my Mio 168, via my wireless home network. I was very tempted to buy one of those Spectec WiFi cards for £25 but I am so glad I didn't, because the Sandisk's onboard RAM means I can install web based software onto the onboard storage. So any software that requires an internet connection, doesn't need to waste space in the internal Mio storage. The Sandisk also has more network features and supported protocols, i.e. security stuff etc.

Hi, there are quite a few SDIO cards on eBay just search for SDIO, I got mine off there from a Hong Kong dealer for £30-00 = £3-00 postage, and it works great, it's ideal for hot spot connections.

Still can't find a WiFi SD card but did read that sandisk took their car off the market due to many of them failing, this would exsplain why they are hard to find.

The only other cards I can see are "SDIO now" which Mio say are not OK to use on the 168 ?.

So anyone who knows where I can get a SD wireless card which is SDIO only & not "SDIO now" post here.

Those Spectec WiFi SDIO cards were going for £25 around the same time I got my Sandisk card in May this year. I just had a quick nosey and I cannot seem to find it anymore. I checked eBuyer where I saw the £25 price before and they no longer sell it. Hmmm.... I wonder why all these WiFi cards are disappearing! Perhaps more people are buying Pocket PC's with WiFi built-in?

I have just bought a Safecom wifi card from ebay for £33 (inc postage) and it's working fine with my 168

That's interesting as I was told that I could not use that card as it's SDIO Now & not just SDIO.

Can you tell me if your Safecom card is this one SWLSDI-1100

If it is then I can get online for £25 which would be great.

I did email Safecom but the person who mailed me back was not good at english so the mail didn't make any sence to me :x .

It took me about 2 minutes to get it going - the info below mentions SDIO Now, but I must admit I didn't see it before I bought it.

On the disk it does says SWLSD1-1100, and all it says on the card is Model: SDIO WLAN Card - the specs on ebay were as follows:
