i live on a small housing estate in the middle of london yet when i put my postcode in i dont have the option of putting my flat number. ok i can usnderstand this but how can i get round it? right opposite my flat in the same street is numbers 1-3 which is an office block but i cant even enter this. TT wants 14-18 only which is at the other end of the street.
I can reset home to where the receiver is and it will show me the correct position but why cant i enter 1-3? also i know at least one other address with the same problem. the address is 155 ****** road in harlow. its a flat but even with the postcode i cant enter 155.
confusing the hell out of me

Dave.

Unfotunately this is one of the limitations of sat nav - not all streets have a full set of house numbers. I live in a 4 year old house in a village, TomTom finds my street ok, but doesn't do the house numbers, and there are only 20 houses for them to list.

Think setting your current postion as home is the only way to do it Crying or Very sad

I assumed TT had got something like the Royal Mail PAF? I know we had problems getting anyone to recognise our old house which was brand new and we were the second lot in under that postcode. Often companies only update their PAF from Royal Mail every 6-12 months, so some houses (or perhaps converted flats?) don't 'officially' exist for some time...

well my block is over 100 years old and the company across the road must be 20-30 years at least.
i guess as long as it gets you to the road its not to much of a problem.

i went to a castle as the weekend. typed in the post code but again only got the road even though TT5 let me select the castle by name it didnt get me even near the driveway.

Unfortunately the PAF, as it stands, is no use as a navigation aid. It keeps house numbers/names, with roads as a delivery round. It has no lat/long as such.

Each Postcode has been matched with a lat/long by the OS, (lots of postings on these Forums about it).

TomTom then licences this database of lat/long, presumably from the OS, and inputting the Postcode returns the lat/long of the general area of that Postcode to the mapping program which then snaps to the nearest road. Not always accurately.
