I have just bought a new TomTom today and I can't get the Weather/Phone/Traffic icons to light up.

When I bought the product the box was open, but as it was the last one in store decided to take it anyway. The SD card is version 5.200. Anyway of telling if the monitor itself is a new one?

Anything that i need to do to make my icon's light up?

Thanks

Hmmmm on further inspection I can enable ASN - the 300 system isn't supposed to have this - I have a feeling that this is a TomTom classic put into a 300 box!

Anyone can confirm this further and what do I do now!

I bought it from a well-known chain of shops as well!

I'm not totally sure, but I think that the classic go has the TomTom logo on the top left front, but the 300/500/700 have it on the top right front.

I have learnt that shopping from the big national stores for anything requires you to say that you are purchasing for a present, and the box must be un-opened, if not try another store.

If it does appear to be a Classic and not the 300 then I would return it and ask for a full refund and go elsewhere.

On the bottom where the thing joins to the base mine has GO 300 written near the connector.

It must be the wrong base if its a classic as im pretty sure the two arnt interchangable.

Try checking the GB map version.

Tap screen. Tap Change Preferences.

Forward arrow to last page. Tap Show Version.

5th line down it will say Great Britain Map v562 or similar.

If it says v390 or v314 you have a Classic. You might still have a Classic with the later number, but less likely that the shop upgraded, surely? I don't think any Classics had the new maps from TomTom.

well, it certainly seems to be a classic - it was in a 300 box though and the sd card is the one that comes with a 300 card and has map version 562.

It was the last one in the store and the assistant said to me that they had opened the box to show someone the arm connector. What I suspect has happened is that the original 300 that was in my box is now on display and they have put a classic in the box that was left in stock, but left the new maps in etc!

On mine the TomTom logo is on the left hand side and underneath all it has is the word GO (4D00.001).

By the way - the store is HALFORDS!

Hi,

I've just checked both a Go Classic and a Go 300.

Go Classic has TomTom logo to the left with GO (4D00.001) on the base next to the connection ports.

Go 300 has Go300 written on the base of the unit several times with GO 300 (4D00.300) in the same place as on the classic.

Looks like you have been stitched up, with a Go Classic and Go 300 SD Card - this would explain the TomTom Plus features being present but greyed out.

Cheers

thank you.

Yes looks like they saw me coming!

Hubby thinks I should keep it anyway as he likes the fact that its has ASN over and above the bluetooth, which he thinks we will never use. But I think its an old model and I paid for a "new" model!

Plus the fact that the 300's are in short supply everywhere and both my local branches have none left - so if I take it back I am going to left without a system altogether and was hoping to use it to negotiate to cadbury world tomorrow!

I'd return it, the halfords i got mine from last week are doing the Go 500 for £400 as they have supplier trouble on the 300. See if they'll swap it for the 500 model.. Plus there is a vouvher for £40 off in the back of their mag.
Then you'll get the bluetooth & asn :D

Definitely take it back, the ASN facility never worked that well, Bluetooth is far more useful as you can subscribe to Traffic, download POIs etc. The 300 is also worth more.

If you really want a Classic, buy a secondhand one and pocket the £100+ you'll have saved.

Just got back from taking it back to Halfords and assistant manager was a tough cookie!

After ringing head office and explaining situation he managed to get hold of one for delivery on Friday or I could have a full refund.

By the way, it turned out prior to getting a display model he had opened up a new 300, and used it for display. When the display model came (my tomtom) he had popped this into the box thinking it was a 300 and then sold it to me! Not intentionally of course he assurred me Embarassed

Anyway....... All I could do was agree a replacement, but I said that surely I should get some form of goodwill gesture for making three return journeys to a branch outside town and for spending most of last night trying to get things to work. He said he would sort something out for Friday or I could have the 500 for an extra £50.

Bearing in mind that I had had a £40 discount at Halfords using a voucher this brought the 500 down to £379. I agreed and so now the proud owner of a NEW never been out the box 500! Not quite as good Sway getting it fro £360, but I wasn't going to argue at that point!

and its got the 5.201 map as well!

Babs

Thanks for all your help guys!
